Job description

Job Summary
This position plays a critical role in the successful operation of a specialized cancer research laboratory, requiring a highly skilled and experienced individual capable of working independently and managing multiple complex responsibilities simultaneously. We are seeking a candidate with a doctoral degree (PhD) and greater than five years of experience following the completion of their training, which may include post-doctoral work. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong dedication to cancer research and possess hands-on experience in the following areas:
Tumor Mouse Modeling - Experience with the establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of mouse tumor models, including syngeneic, xenograft, and/or genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs)
In Vitro Cell Line Experiments - Proficiency in culturing and manipulating cancer cell lines, including proliferation assays, viability assays, migration/invasion assays, and related techniques
Tumor Immunology - Familiarity with immune cell characterization, tumor microenvironment analysis, and immunophenotyping using techniques such as flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry
Molecular and Cell Biology - Strong foundation in standard techniques including Western blotting, PCR, qRT-PCR, CRISPR, cloning, protein expression, and microscopy
Drug Treatments ? Experience designing and executing in vitro and in vivo drug treatment studies, including dose-response analyses and evaluation of therapeutic efficacy
The ideal candidate must possess strong scientific expertise, leadership abilities, and organizational skills to effectively oversee laboratory operations, manage mouse colonies, and mentor students and PhD trainees. This position requires a high level of professional judgment and the ability to adapt to evolving research priorities while maintaining rigorous scientific standards.
Active participation in the broader cancer research community is a key component of this role. The candidate will be expected to attend monthly Sarcoma Research Working Group meetings, and monthly Cutaneous Oncology Research meetings, and will be required to present their research findings at these meetings on at least an annual basis. The candidate is also expected to actively participate in the Center for Basic and Translational Science. The role is integral to advancing the research mission of the laboratory and department, and the candidate is expected to contribute meaningfully to scientific publications and presentations in collaboration with the Principal Investigator.
Responsibilities*
  • Develops, designs, and conducts complex research experiments; reviews progress and evaluates results
  • Oversees day-to-day laboratory operations, including mouse colonies; supervises research and support personnel, students, and PhD trainees
  • Analyzes and interprets data; implements research methodology based on outcomes
  • Trains users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques; consults to refine methodologies
  • Coordinates data collection, screening, and verification
  • Co-authors publications; co-presents findings at meetings and/or conferences; assists with grant writing
  • Assists with lab management including ordering, IACUC protocols, IBC certifications

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5 to 6 years related experience
  • Supervisory and financial management experience required

  • Master's degree or specific professional/Doctorate degree preferred
