Job description

The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM) is seeking a motivated individual to join our Campus Security Team. This position will support the Campus Security Director and Office during peak periods by assisting with shift coverage. The position can potentially lead to a permanent, fixed schedule with benefits. Due the variable schedule and nature of the position, the role is considered On-Call.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong working knowledge of security operations, safety practices and enforcement procedures.
  • Ability to operate detecting systems and emergency equipment.
  • Excellent surveillance and observation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Tech-savvy with experience in surveillance systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of public safety and security procedures/protocols.
  • Integrity and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
  • Protect College property and staff by maintaining a safe and secure environment.
  • Monitor premises for signs of crime or disorder and investigate disturbances.
  • Act lawfully in direct defense of life or property.
  • Report in detail any suspicious or unusual incidents.
  • Conduct random and regular patrols of building and property perimeter.
  • Monitor and control access at building entrances.
  • Monitor campus security video surveillance system for unlawful or inappropriate behavior.
  • Coordinate with Idaho State University Public Safety, Meridian Police Department, and other local first response agencies as necessary to maintain campus safety.
  • Conduct foot patrols of parking areas to ensure vehicles display appropriate parking permits and enforce parking violations in accordance with Idaho State Code.
  • Promote and maintain a positive working relationship with ICOM students and staff.
  • Comply with ICOM policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a U.S. police training academy or police training academy equivalent.
  • Retired law enforcement officer with a minimum 10 years of law enforcement experience and the ability to qualify for a CCW under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (18 USC 926C(c)).
  • Ability to pass FBI and state of Idaho fingerprint background check.
Working Conditions
  • This is a temporary position with variable hours based on the needs of the Campus Security Department.
  • The position may require evening or weekend work during peak periods.
  • Physically able to conduct foot patrols on uneven surfaces, slick or wet surfaces, stairs, rough terrain, and in all weather conditions.
  • Display competence with issued firearms and maintain a minimum passing score during firearm qualification.

Hourly Range: $21/hr
