What is a campus ambassador?

A campus ambassador works on a college campus to promote a product, program, or service of a company. You generally do this through hosting events, tabling, or various other field marketing techniques. The colleges themselves may also offer an ambassador program, promoting things like study abroad opportunities, but these positions are usually exclusive to students. Depending on what you are promoting, your duties as a campus ambassador may include forging relationships with students at the college or merely distributing the product. Companies also deploy campus ambassadors to encourage applicants for internships. Campus ambassador is often a part-time position geared towards students.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a campus ambassador, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Campus Ambassador, you need strong communication, networking, and organizational skills, often supported by current enrollment in a university or college. Familiarity with social media platforms, event management tools, and sometimes CRM systems is typically expected. Outstanding interpersonal skills, initiative, and a passion for promoting the brand or organization make someone excel in this role. These skills are crucial for effectively engaging peers, increasing brand visibility, and coordinating successful campus events.

How does a campus ambassador typically engage with students and faculty to promote brand initiatives?

Campus Ambassadors often act as the primary link between the brand and the university community. They engage students and faculty by organizing events, hosting informational sessions, distributing promotional materials, and leveraging social media to amplify brand messages. Building relationships with student organizations and faculty is key, as it helps in gaining support for campaigns and maximizing reach. Ambassadors also collect feedback and insights from their peers to help brands tailor their strategies for better campus engagement.

Do campus ambassadors get paid?

Campus ambassadors are typically volunteer roles focused on promoting brands or events on campus. However, some programs offer stipends, gift cards, or other incentives based on performance or engagement. Payment policies vary by organization and program structure.

Job description

Job Title: Campus Ambassador (Student, Unpaid) โ€” Ambient Social

Location: New York, NY

Employment type: Internship / Volunteer

About Ambient Social:

Ambient Social is a new NYC-based app that helps people find restaurants by vibe, not just cuisine or rating. Instead of scrolling through filters, users search things like "quiet dinner with friends" or "rooftop for drinks," and Ambient curates the spots that match. We are also shortly launching a brand new feature that allows groups to curate the perfect plan together through our app. We launched in June 2026 and are building our presence across NYC college campuses.

About the role

We're looking for current students who are natural connectors, the person who's always picking the restaurant for the group or has a pulse on what's new in the city. As a Campus Ambassador, you'll be the face of Ambient Social at your school.

What you'll do

  • Create different types of content to be posted to Instagram and Tiktok
  • Help spread the word about Ambient Social on campus
  • Share feedback directly with the founders

What you'll get

  • Official "Ambassador" title, real experience for your resume/LinkedIn
  • First access to perks and restaurant partnerships as they roll out
  • A flexible, low-commitment way to get real startup experience while in school

Who we're looking for

  • Current undergraduate students in the NYC area
  • Active on social media and plugged into your campus's social scene
  • Reliable, enthusiastic, excited to be part of something new

How to apply

Email ambientsocialapp@gmail.com with a short note about yourself and why you'd be a good fit.
