Job Description
This posting is to establish a pool of qualified applicants. The department may not be actively recruiting. Applications submitted will remain active for up to one (1) year. San Bernardino Community College District accepts applications for Federal Work Study, hourly positions for our two college campuses (San Bernardino Valley College and Crafton Hills College) on a continuous basis. However, this does not imply the department is actively recruiting for this position. If there is an interest and/or need within the specific department, applicants who meet the requirements will be contacted by the respective department manager.
Student employee will assist faculty, staff, students, and community members in the CalWORKs & Workforce Development Office. Student employee will assist in providing program related general support during assigned office hours and assist with program activities on or off campus.
Student worker will assist in providing program related general support and assistance to faculty, staff, and students during class/lab activities. Must have the ability to work with a diverse student population.
Representative Duties:
  • Providing program and general college information.
  • Assist with ensuring office coverage.
  • Mail pick-up and delivery.
  • Assisting students and visitors at front counter.
  • Assist with answering phones.
  • Data entry and create files.
  • Scheduling student appointments.
  • Assist with completion of special projects.
  • Assist with filing and organizing.
  • Assist with other related duties
This position is ideal for a student looking to gain experience in office work and event management while being involved in the San Bernardino Valley College CalWORKs Department.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • Student must have in possession of a Federal Work Study award letter for the current academic year or be eligible for federal work-study funding
  • Students cannot fall below half-time (6+ units) during their employment under the FWS program.
  • Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
  • Student must have a minimum of 2.0 GPA
  • Student must have a current TB
  • Ability to follow directions in order to carry out the duties as assigned
  • Familiarity with various equipment/tools used in the program and/or have completed some courses in the specific program or related fields
  • Student must be available to work 20 hours per week in 3 to 5 hours blocks of time.
  • Ability to work with a team or independently.
  • Familiarity with various equipment/tools used in the department.

If selected for the position the student will be responsible for completing a TB test and Live Scan before they can begin employment. Approval of employment will be based on the results of the TB test and Live Scan results.
The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:
  • Submit to and successfully pass DOJ live scan/fingerprinting. Cost of live-scan services to be borne by candidate.
  • Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution (for positions with higher education requirement)
  • Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment
  • Other pre-employment requirements may be required depending on the position (i.e. certifications or licenses; see job posting qualifications section for details).
