Job description

Position Purpose
The RTOC Coordinator supports patient flow and Transfer Center operations by receiving and processing requests, coordinating required documentation and communications, monitoring request status, and facilitating operational support services.
The RTOC Coordinator collaborates with RTOC nurses, physicians, nursing units, Case Management, referring and accepting facilities, transportation providers, and other key stakeholders to support timely, accurate, and coordinated patient movement, including incoming and outgoing transfer coordination, bed placement activities, and discharge transportation. The position functions within established workflows and escalation pathways and does not provide direct patient care.
Nature and Scope
The RTOC Coordinator works in a centralized, high-volume environment supporting operational services that promote timely patient flow, transfers, discharges, bed placement, and patient movement in and out of the hospital. Responsibilities and assignments may vary based on department priorities, operational needs, shift, staffing, and changes in the services supported by the RTOC.
The coordinator receives and processes requests, gathers and documents required information, obtains records, monitors workflow status, and communicates with internal and external partners. Responsibilities may include coordinating transportation and discharge support, assisting with transfer workflows, supporting bed placement activities, and escalating barriers or delays according to established processes.
This position requires strong communication, prioritization, accuracy, confidentiality, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple changing demands. The coordinator works within established workflows and escalates clinical questions or decisions to the appropriate nurse, physician, or leader.

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in healthcare, business, or a related field preferred. Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare, hospital, medical office, patient access, scheduling, dispatch, transfer center, call center, or other high-volume coordination environment required.

Computer / Typing:
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
Must possess the computer and data-entry skills necessary to work within multiple electronic systems and communication platforms. Must be able to navigate between multiple applications, accurately enter and retrieve information, and learn department-specific systems.
