Job description

Applied Technical Services, LLC (ATS) is a leading provider of critical testing, inspection, certification, and compliance services. Position Summary:
The Lab Manager is an operational leadership role within our Calibration segment, responsible for planning, coordination, evaluation and supervision of all technical and operational activities and team members at our greenfield location in Huntsville, AL. This role will also be responsible for performing calibration services and must have the applicable technical acumen for doing so. This is an exciting opportunity to expand ATS's calibration services footprint in the Huntsville market.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and guidance to technicians and other employees in their day-to-day responsibilities
  • Manage all calibration services and related supplies with a focus on quality, safety, and compliance
  • Work directly with customers to coordinate, support, and deliver calibration services
  • Assist inside and outside sales teams with the marketing and promotion of calibration services
  • Manage agreements related to the delivery of calibration services and the purchase of supplies and equipment
  • Ensure resources are in place to meet customer requirements and service commitments
  • Evaluate department performance and identify growth and expansion opportunities
  • Maintain hands-on technical capability, including the ability to calibrate most equipment assigned to the department
  • Authorized to hire employees and manage staff performance in alignment with company policy
  • Lead, train, and develop calibration staff to meet departmental and company objectives

  • Required Experience and Skills:
  • High School diploma or equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 5+ years of related experience in the calibration of precision measurement or test equipment with a minimum of 3 years experience in a supervisory or management capacity
  • Relevant experience or demonstrated capability managing a team including hiring, establishing goals/metrics, and coaching for strong performance
  • Experience in a growth-oriented business is strongly preferred
  • Financial acumen with the ability to evaluate and understand a departmental P&L
  • Results-oriented, proactive, and ability to balance multiple deliverables to drive financial success
  • Client-centric mindset with experience engaging with a variety of client contacts and maintaining strong relationships
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to develop high-performing teams
  • Continuous improvement and efficiency-focused leadership

Additional Requirements:
Ability and willingness to work 40 hours (and overtime as needed) to meet customer demands and schedules Ability and willingness to fly and/or drive to client sites, tradeshows, or other company sponsored events up to 10% Clean driving record and ability to pass a background check and drug screening Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 60lbs
  • Maneuvering to and around equipment
  • Bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching
  • Climbing stepstools or ladders
