Job Title: Calibration Lab Manager

Founded in 1978, Micro Quality Calibration (MQC) is one of the largest privately owned metrology labs on the West Coast, serving aerospace, defense, medical, automotive, and other precision-driven industries. Operating from a new 22,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility, MQC is trusted by thousands of companies nationwide. Calibration is performed to NIST-traceable standards, with A2LA accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL. MQC is known for quality, accuracy, responsiveness, and a 5-business-day turnaround.


Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Calibration Lab Manager to lead the technical and day-to-day operations of our calibration laboratory. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on calibration experience combined with proven management and technical leadership skills.

The successful candidate will oversee calibration workflow, technicians, technical procedures, quality systems, equipment, and laboratory performance. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong knowledge of calibration and the ability to communicate effectively with technicians, engineers, customers, auditors, and senior management.


Responsibilities:

Calibration & Technical Operations

  • Oversee daily calibration workflow, staffing, productivity, capacity, and turnaround while ensuring accurate and timely customer work.
  • Provide technical guidance on calibration procedures, instrumentation, measurement systems, standards, traceability, uncertainty, calibration intervals, and out-of-tolerance conditions across multiple disciplines.

Quality & Compliance

  • Maintain technical compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, A2LA, NIST traceability, ANSI/NCSL, and MQC quality procedures; ensure accurate calibration records, certificates, and technical documentation.
  • Support internal, A2LA, and customer audits, including technical findings, nonconformances, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.

Technical Leadership

  • Lead, train, develop, and hold calibration technicians accountable while assigning work based on qualifications, workload, and customer requirements.
  • Identify training and cross-training needs and ensure technicians are properly qualified for assigned calibration activities.

Equipment, Facility & Improvement

  • Oversee calibration standards, equipment, environmental conditions, laboratory facilities, and maintenance requirements.
  • Identify and implement improvements to calibration processes, efficiency, quality, turnaround, and laboratory performance.


Requirements and Skills:

  • Must have 7-10 years of bench calibration/metrology experience.
  • Proven management experience leading calibration laboratory or technical operations.
  • Strong knowledge of calibration processes, instrumentation, measurement systems, metrology principles, and multiple disciplines including electrical, dimensional, mechanical, temperature, pressure, RF, and/or physical.
  • Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, A2LA, NIST traceability, ANSI/NCSL, audits, measurement uncertainty, and out-of-tolerance conditions preferred.
  • Military PMEL/TMDE/DOD calibration experience preferred.
  • Proven leadership, communication, organizational, time-management, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Experience with calibration management software, ERP/LIMS, and Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and turnaround requirements.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. for potential onsite customer visits.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required.
