As of Jun 14, 2026, the average hourly pay for cad librarian in the United States is $39.26, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $34.86 and $44.47 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What does a CAD librarian do?

A CAD librarian manages and maintains computer-aided design (CAD) libraries, ensuring that CAD drawings, templates, and standards are organized, accessible, and up-to-date. They often collaborate with engineers and designers, utilize CAD software, and may develop or enforce document control procedures to support project workflows.

What type of librarians make the most money?

Among librarians, those specializing as law librarians or medical librarians tend to earn the highest salaries due to their specialized knowledge and the demand in legal and healthcare settings. Academic and research librarians with advanced degrees and certifications may also have higher earning potential, especially in senior or managerial roles. Salary can vary based on experience, location, and level of education.

What are some typical daily tasks for a CAD Librarian?

A typical day for a CAD Librarian involves cataloging and maintaining digital CAD drawings and models, ensuring that files are organized according to company or industry standards. You may review submissions from engineers and designers, update metadata, manage permissions, and maintain version control. Additionally, CAD Librarians often assist users with locating drawings, resolve file discrepancies, and help enforce best practices for digital asset management. Collaboration with architects, engineers, and IT staff is common to ensure the smooth flow of project information.

What is a CAD Librarian job?

A CAD Librarian is responsible for managing and maintaining libraries of CAD components, symbols, and models used in design and engineering projects. They ensure that CAD databases are accurate, up-to-date, and standardized to improve design efficiency. CAD Librarians work closely with engineers, designers, and manufacturers to create and organize digital assets for use in electronic or mechanical design. Their role often involves quality control, version management, and compliance with industry standards.

Is AI replacing librarians?

AI is not replacing librarians, including those working as CAD librarians, but it is transforming certain tasks such as cataloging, data management, and information retrieval. Librarians continue to provide critical expertise, customer service, and curation that AI cannot fully replicate, often using digital tools and software to enhance their work.

What jobs pay $400 an hour?

Cad librarians typically do not earn $400 an hour; such high rates are usually associated with specialized consultants, senior architects, or highly experienced professionals in niche fields. Freelance or consulting roles in architecture, engineering, or IT may reach this level with significant expertise and reputation. These positions often require advanced certifications, extensive experience, and a strong portfolio.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Cad Librarian position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CAD Librarian, you need expertise in organizing and managing digital CAD files, familiarity with drafting standards, and often an associate's degree or equivalent experience in CAD or related fields. Proficiency with CAD software (such as AutoCAD, Revit, or MicroStation), document management systems, and sometimes knowledge of BIM standards are typically required. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and effective communication are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills ensure accuracy, efficient access to design assets, and smooth collaboration with engineering and design teams.
