Job description

Overview
Paige, a GCG company, is seeking a Product Design Engineer to develop wire, cable, connector, and related electrical products that meet customer requirements, industry standards, and manufacturing needs.
In this role, you will support the full product design process-from reviewing initial requirements and contributing to quotations through creating specifications, coordinating with suppliers, supporting product testing, and maintaining regulatory and environmental compliance documentation.
You will work closely with Engineering, Sales, New Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, customers, and suppliers. Your work will help ensure that new and existing products are technically sound, manufacturable, properly documented, and aligned with applicable safety and certification standards.
This is a strong opportunity for an engineer who combines hands-on design capability with practical product knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate technical work across multiple stakeholders. The ideal candidate understands wire and cable design principles, is comfortable working with technical drawings and specifications, and can communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical partners.
This is a full-time, remote position with a preference for candidates located in the Eastern or Central time zone. The role reports to the Director of Engineering and requires up to 10% travel to customer sites, supplier locations, manufacturing facilities, industry events, and other business locations.
What You'll Do
  • Lead assigned product design activities from initial requirements and quotation support through documentation, qualification testing, and production readiness.
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings, product specifications, bills of materials, purchase specifications, and related technical documentation.
  • Apply knowledge of wire and cable products, connectors, wire sizing, materials, and industry standards to develop practical, manufacturable product designs.
  • Review customer requirements and provide engineering input related to product construction, materials, compliance, testing, and manufacturability.
  • Communicate with customers and their engineering, quality, or reliability teams to clarify technical requirements and support design reviews and product approvals.
  • Identify and coordinate with suppliers to evaluate materials, components, capabilities, availability, performance, and cost considerations.
  • Develop clear technical and purchase specifications that communicate product requirements to suppliers and internal sourcing partners.
  • Support product evaluations, qualification testing, quality reviews, supplier audits, and regulatory or safety listing activities.
  • Gather supplier declarations and supporting records, and prepare environmental compliance documentation for Paige products.
  • Maintain accurate product design, testing, qualification, regulatory, supplier, and compliance records.
  • Coordinate design changes and technical updates while ensuring drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and related documentation remain current.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product design practices, documentation, supplier coordination, quality, and internal workflows.
  • Provide technical guidance, knowledge sharing, or mentorship to less-experienced team members as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of product engineering, design engineering, cable engineering, or closely related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of wire and cable product design principles.
  • Experience creating, reviewing, or interpreting engineering drawings, product specifications, bills of materials, and other technical documentation.
  • Experience using AutoCAD or another computer-aided design program.
  • Understanding of how product materials, construction, manufacturing processes, and application requirements affect product design.
  • Ability to apply analytical and engineering judgment to product development and technical support activities.
  • Experience communicating technical information to customers, suppliers, engineers, quality teams, manufacturing partners, or other stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Careful attention to detail, particularly when creating and maintaining technical, regulatory, and compliance documentation.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision while recognizing when technical concerns or decisions require escalation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across Engineering, Sales, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Legal, and management teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows, and related business applications.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is strongly preferred.
  • Experience designing wire, cable, connectors, cable assemblies, or related electrical products.
  • Strong understanding of wire sizing, conductor materials, insulation, jacketing, connectors, and other cable construction considerations.
  • Experience applying UL, CSA, ETL, NSF, or other safety and certification standards.
  • Experience working directly with product certification or regulatory agencies.
  • Experience supporting product qualification testing, environmental compliance, regulatory submissions, or safety listing activities.
  • Familiarity with supplier qualification, factory audits, sourcing processes, or vendor technical coordination.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial distribution, electrical products, or engineered products environment.
  • Experience using enterprise resource planning systems to maintain product, material, or bill-of-material information.
What We Offer
  • Competitive base salary ranging from $75,000 to $88,000 annually, depending on relevant experience and qualifications.
  • Comprehensive health coverage with multiple plan options, including CDHP and PPO options.
  • Company-paid life and disability insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Supplemental insurance options.
  • Generous time off, including PTO, paid holidays, parental leave, and compassionate care leave.
  • Wellness and support programs, including employee assistance program resources, wellness incentives, and telehealth.
  • Additional benefits such as dental and vision coverage, flexible spending and health savings accounts with company contributions, pet insurance, legal services, and identity theft protection.
  • A people-first culture that values technical expertise, collaboration, continuous improvement, and long-term career growth.
