This is not just a design role. It is a business-connected engineering position that influences product capability, plant efficiency, and customer success.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Product Design & Execution
    • Develop and maintain cable designs, specifications, drawings, and data sheets
    • Translate customer requirements and industry standards into manufacturable solutions
    • Utilize in-house cable design systems (Cable Builder and/or Common Analisi) to generate BOM's and routings for manufacturing of Prysmian products at its facilities
  • Cost & Commercial Support
    • Generate accurate cost models for quotations and production
    • Analyze cost drivers and support benchmarking across facilities
    • Partner with commercial teams to deliver competitive solutions
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with manufacturing, operations, and commercial teams to ensure efficient execution
    • Support plant capability assessments and manufacturability decisions
    • Provide technical input to improve throughput, quality, and product consistency
  • Governance & Compliance
    • Maintain design systems, technical instructions (TIs), SOPs, and product data integrity
    • Ensure all designs comply with applicable standards (UL, CSA, ICEA, and others)
    • Stay current on evolving regulatory and certification requirements
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement
    • Identify opportunities to enhance products, reduce cost, and improve performance
    • Support new product development and experimental trials, including documentation and execution
    • Maintain strong operating knowledge of appropriate industry standards and including all updates as well as ICEA, UL, CSA and other certification listings
    • Prepare design documentation for factory level experimental trials/product development concerning new compound implementation and associated cable products.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field - or equivalent experience; foundational engineering knowledge is essential for interpreting specifications, understanding cable constructions, and supporting feasibility assessments.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment - with exposure to technical problemโ€‘solving, process understanding, or productโ€‘related decisionโ€‘making.
  • Strong analytical, problemโ€‘solving, and technical writing skills - ability to evaluate multiple specifications, determine compliance, and document conclusions clearly.
  • Effective communication skills across all levels - comfortable interacting with operators, engineers, product managers, and leadership to gather information and make informed decisions.
  • Selfโ€‘starter with the ability to work independently - able to proactively reach out to others, ask questions, and collaborate to resolve grayโ€‘area decisions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools - Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access; experience with ERP or database systems preferred for managing specifications and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Programming knowledge - helpful for working with the back end of design systems; Java experience is beneficial for system programming tasks.
  • Experience interpreting complex specifications - ability to analyze multiple industry, customer, and internal specs, determine the most stringent requirements, and assess compliance (Specification Engineering experience).
  • Experience resolving specificationโ€‘related issues - such as evaluating whether a cable with deviations can still meet industry standards or customer requirements.
  • Leadership interest or experience - potential to grow into leadership roles; ability to influence decisions and collaborate across functions.
  • Experience in a specification engineering role - or similar background involving detailed technical documentation, feasibility assessments, and crossโ€‘functional coordination.
