Job description

The Access Control Installation Technician is an essential role for Guardian Access Solutions. The technician installs, maintains, and repairs physical security systems that regulate entry to restricted areas, working with electronic hardware, low-voltage wiring, and system software to safeguard buildings. This role assists with installation, servicing, repairs, and troubleshooting of access control, CCTV, camera, and access-related project installations. Projects are primarily commercial with a focus on large-scale bids. We are seeking experienced technicians with strong backgrounds in access control, CCTV, alarm systems, and low-voltage infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Installation: Run, route, terminate, and test low-voltage cabling; install conduit, raceway, and cable support systems; and drill and secure cabling through walls, ceilings, floors, and other building structures.
  • Hardware: Install and connect control panels, door contacts, card readers, electric strikes, magnetic locks, biometric scanners, sensors, keypads, and cameras.
  • Programming & Commissioning: Configure access control software, set security permissions, perform system startup and functional testing, and integrate systems with CCTV or alarm platforms.
  • Networking: Assign and configure IPv4 addresses for cameras, controllers, and other network-connected devices, and troubleshoot basic network connectivity issues.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair malfunctioning hardware, software faults, circuits, sensors, power supplies, and security devices.
  • Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance, conduct system tests, and keep detailed records of equipment changes.
  • Documentation: Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and system schematics, and maintain accurate project and service records.
  • Client Training: Educate end-users and facility staff on how to operate systems, manage credentials, and pull reports.
  • Project Delivery: Complete projects safely, on time, and in accordance with company standards and customer expectations.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prep the area for installation, including surveying, establishing the installation process, and following installation guidelines, safety, and post-installation testing requirements
  • Assist with loading and unloading tools, equipment, and supplies for the job
  • Oversee cost effectiveness and proper disposal of leftover materials according to regulations and local requirements
  • Keep the company vehicle clean, operate it safely, and notify the Program Manager of any vehicle issues
  • Demonstrate strong customer service and interact professionally with customers to resolve concerns
  • Collaborate seamlessly within a team setting and show a willingness to learn new products
  • Maintain regular attendance during typical work hours and provide flexibility for on-call and after-hours emergency servicing
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and policies, and perform other job-related duties as assigned
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of commercial low-voltage or security system installation experience, including access control and cameras
  • Experience with access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, or alarm systems
  • Strong understanding of low-voltage electrical systems, wiring, device termination, and system testing
  • Basic networking and IT infrastructure knowledge, including IPv4 addressing and device connectivity
  • Hands-on experience with electronic locking mechanisms and access platforms
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, electrical drawings, and architectural blueprints
  • Professional communication and customer service skills, with a strong work ethic
  • Capacity to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work both indoors and outdoors
  • Familiar with computers, networks, installation of access control devices, cameras, programming, and access controls systems
  • As a condition of employment, employer will conduct a background check and drug screen prior to hire
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Willingness to travel out of town for projects
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and adapt to different work schedule including on-call rotation for emergency after-hours service
  • Ability to perform physical work outdoors year-round in a variety of weather elements for 8+ hours a day, 40+ hours a week
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent with industry experience
