Job description

At Altarum, we're driven by a simple but powerful mission: improving the health of individuals with fewer financial resources and populations underserved by the healthcare system. We partner with federal and state agencies to design and deliver solutions that make a real, measurable difference.
About the Role
Altarum is seeking a Business Technology Analyst to help improve how our organization uses data, automation, and artificial intelligence to work more effectively.
In this role, you will partner with teams across Altarum to understand their needs and turn them into practical reporting, workflow, and technology solutions. You will build dashboards, automate repetitive processes, support SharePoint and Microsoft 365 solutions, and help identify responsible, high-value uses for AI.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with three to five years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, business systems, reporting, or process improvement who enjoys solving business problems and learning new tools. While this is not a traditional software development role, you should be comfortable working with data and technology, managing defined assignments independently, and translating technical concepts for nontechnical colleagues.
What You'll Do
Data & Reporting
  • Build and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and data models that support informed decision-making.
  • Use Excel, Power Query, SQL, and related tools to prepare, analyze, and present business data.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to translate business questions and requirements into useful reporting solutions.
  • Validate results, investigate discrepancies, and document data sources, calculations, and reporting logic.
  • Support reporting that draws from systems such as Deltek Costpoint, UKG, SQL Server, and SharePoint.

Automation and AI
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual work, streamline processes, and improve the employee experience.
  • Build and maintain low-code workflows using Power Automate and related Microsoft tools.
  • Develop practical solutions involving forms, approvals, notifications, data collection, and information sharing.
  • Use approved AI tools to support analysis, research, documentation, and process improvement.
  • Test AI-assisted workflows and evaluate outputs for accuracy, privacy, security, and appropriate use.
  • Create reusable prompts, AI-assisted tools, and guidance for common business needs.
  • Help employees understand and effectively use new automation and AI-enabled solutions.

SharePoint and Microsoft 365
  • Configure and maintain SharePoint lists, libraries, pages, views, and basic permissions.
  • Build straightforward solutions that support document management, workflows, collaboration, and information sharing.
  • Troubleshoot common issues and maintain clear supporting documentation.
  • Assist with the ongoing improvement and adoption of Microsoft 365 tools across the organization.

What You'll Bring
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, business systems, reporting, process improvement, or a related area.
  • Experience developing Power BI reports and dashboards.
  • Experience using Excel, SQL, Power Query, or comparable data tools.
  • The ability to analyze and validate data, investigate discrepancies, and clearly communicate findings.
  • Experience gathering requirements and translating business needs into reports, workflows, or technology solutions.
  • The ability to independently manage defined assignments or small projects from planning through delivery.
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to explain technical information clearly to nontechnical employees.
  • Sound judgment when working with sensitive data and emerging technologies.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and the ability to independently learn and apply new tools.

What Will Set You Apart
These qualifications are helpful but not required:
  • Experience with Power Automate, Power Apps, SharePoint, or another low-code platform.
  • Hands-on experience using generative AI for analysis, research, documentation, or workflow improvement.
  • Experience supporting Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, project management, or other corporate functions.
  • Familiarity with data governance, information security, privacy, or responsible AI practices.
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint, UKG, Microsoft Fabric, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit, healthcare, research, federal contracting, or other regulated environment.
  • Experience developing user guidance, documentation, or training for new technology solutions.

Why Join Our Team?
In this role, your work will strengthen the systems and processes that help our teams deliver on our mission. You will join a collaborative environment that values curiosity, adaptability, thoughtful innovation, and practical problem-solving.
At Altarum, it's more than work; you're joining a team where your expertise helps drive meaningful impact.
Where You'll Work
  • This position will be located in Novi, MI or Silver Spring, MD. If you're near one of our offices (Silver Spring, MD; or Novi, MI), you'll be Hybrid and will join us in person one day every other month (6 times per year) for a fun, purpose-driven Collaboration Day. These days are filled with creative energy, meaningful connection, and team brainstorming. You will be working remotely on the other days and may be asked to travel occasionally.
  • Non-local employees will join these days virtually and may be asked to join us occasionally in-person.

Work Eligibility & Requirements
  • Candidates must be currently eligible to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available.
  • All work must be performed within the continental U.S. for the duration of employment, unless required by contract.
  • Ability to work core hours aligned with Eastern Time, unless otherwise approved by your manager.
  • Remote employees must maintain a dedicated, ergonomically appropriate workspace free from distractions, with reliable internet and a mobile device that supports efficient work.
  • Travel Requirements: <10%

$85,354 - $103,013.40 a year
At Altarum, we carefully consider a wide range of compensation factors and rely on market indicators to get it right. Individual compensation packages are based on numerous factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons. This salary range is not a guarantee of compensation, as the final offer amount will vary based on these factors.
In addition to base salary compensation, Altarum Enterprise employees enjoy the following benefits:
- Competitive Medical, Dental and Optical plans
- Generous Paid Time Off, 8 Company observed holidays plus 3 floating holidays
- Tuition Assistance
- 401K Plan (3% employer contribution plus opportunity for gainsharing)
- Life, AD&D & Disability coverage
- A flexible work environment and more!
Altarum is a nonprofit organization focused on improving the health of individuals with fewer financial resources and populations disenfranchised by the health care system. We work primarily on behalf of federal and state governments to design and implement solutions that achieve measurable results. We combine our expertise in public health and health care delivery with technology development and implementation, practice transformation, training and technical assistance, quality improvement, data analytics, and applied research and evaluation. Our innovative solutions and proven processes lead to better value and health for all.
Altarum is an equal opportunity employer that provides employment and opportunities to all qualified employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
