Job description

IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for a Business Intelligence Analyst from our Raleigh, North Carolina location. This role supports the effective identification, analysis, and delivery of critical data to key decision-makers in order to drive incremental value for the organization. This role is primarily responsible for the design, development, optimization, and maintenance of enterprise semantic models within the Microsoft Fabric and Power BI ecosystem. The position will partner closely with Business Intelligence Analysts and business stakeholders to support complex data modeling requirements, develop advanced DAX measures, ensure model consistency and governance, and enable scalable self-service analytics across the organization.

This role works a hybrid schedule that requires working from the office Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working Thursday and Friday remotely.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, maintain, and optimize Power BI/Fabric semantic models that support enterprise reporting and analytics initiatives.
  • Implement dimensional modeling best practices including star schema design, relationship management, hierarchies, perspectives, and calculation groups.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate analytical requirements into scalable semantic model solutions.
  • Develop and maintain complex DAX measures, calculated tables, and calculation groups.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize DAX performance and model query efficiency.
  • Assist BI Analysts with advanced measure design, time intelligence calculations, and complex business logic implementation.
  • Ensure consistency and adherence to enterprise semantic modeling standards and governance practices.
  • Participate in model reviews, validation processes, and documentation efforts.
  • Identify opportunities to consolidate duplicate logic and promote reusable analytical assets.
  • Develops working relationships with business partners and functional support groups (Actuarial, Finance, Claims, etc.) in order to clearly identify the business-based need and value proposition.
  • Analyzes business requirements and develops scalable semantic modeling solutions, advanced DAX calculations, and reusable analytical assets that support enterprise reporting and self-service analytics.
  • Develops and effectively documents business requirements used for the design and development and automation of targeted solutions. The ability to provide an automated template for all the necessary actuarial work processes is paramount.
  • Works constructively with key business partners in order to provide input into the identification and development of quality metrics and the ability to efficiently access supporting data elements (data drill-down capabilities).
  • Effectively leverages and works with technology-based tools that enable data analytics and data management, especially as pertains to rate filing support, rate decision support, and planning and reserving data.
  • Communicates the development of collaborative partnerships and the translation of data-centric issues and solutions in an understandable manner to our business partners.
  • Trains users on semantic model capabilities, self-service analytics, and Power BI best practices.
  • Provides technical guidance to Business Intelligence Analysts on semantic model design, DAX development, performance tuning, and data modeling best practices.
  • Work closely with our Data Science and Data Management teams to make sure data needed is stored and accurate.
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 2 years of related experience or equivalent.
  • The equivalent is defined as 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be able to collaborate productively with internal/external partners, subject matter experts, and business leaders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills at a senior level.
  • Experience developing and maintaining Power BI Semantic Models in Microsoft Fabric.
  • Working knowledge of DAX measures and time intelligence functions.
  • Experience with dimensional data modeling and star schema design.
  • Basic SQL and Python experience.
  • Collaborates productively with internal/external partners, subject matter experts, and business leaders.
