Job description

LHB is seeking a Marketing and Business Development Director to lead a firmwide, client-focused growth strategy aligned across our multidisciplinary design and engineering practice. This is a hybrid position based in our Duluth or Minneapolis locations. This role serves as a strategic partner to firm leadership, shaping how LHB competes in the marketplace by aligning business development, marketing, brand, and communications into a cohesive growth strategy. The Director brings clarity and discernment to where we pursue work, how we position ourselves, and how we consistently win in priority markets.

Our Core Values focus on healthy relationships and listening first as the foundation of excellence in quality, creativity, and design. You will be mentoring, guiding, and empowering our market leaders and doer-sellers to strengthen revenue generation through intentional client and relationship development. This is not a lead generation role. 

The Director will also serve as a key strategic advisor to the COO, CEO and Executive Leadership Team. This role is critical to advancing LHB's next chapter of growth, strengthening its reputation, and translating design excellence into measurable market impact.  This position will report to the COO.

Position Summary

The responsibilities for this position will include but are not limited to:

Firmwide Strategy and Leadership

  • Define and lead a coordinated marketing and business development strategy to support LHB's vision, strengthening alignment across all business units and disciplines
  • Drive a proactive, opportunity-focused growth mindset across the firm, identifying where LHB can differentiate and lead in target markets
  • Partner with leadership to define where, and why, to compete in alignment with long-term strategic priorities
  • Provide insight into market trends, client needs, and competitive positioning
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses and provide data-driven guidance to the Company
  • Oversee public relations and corporate communications

Pursuit Strategy and Win Leadership

  • Provide strategic oversight to the firm's most critical, high-value pursuits
  • Lead positioning, differentiation, and client strategy
  • Influence decisions on pursuits, market priorities, and resource allocation
  • Establish firmwide standards for winning work
  • Coach pursuit and interview teams to improve win rates

Marketing Team Leadership and Operations

  • Lead, support, mentor, and grow the six-person marketing team
  • Elevate team capabilities to support more strategic and complex pursuits
  • Build and develop a strong leadership bench within the marketing team
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Align business development strategy, marketing execution, and CRM/knowledge systems
  • Ensure Customer Relationships Marketing (CRM) database is built, functional, and continually updated to improve transparency and reduce information silos
  • Facilitate development of annual Marketing action plans in coordination with market leads
  • Build a data-informed approach to decision-making and opportunity tracking
  • Develop and manage marketing and business development budgets, resources, vendors, and priorities

Communications

  • Provide strategic oversight and direction for LHB's communication strategy
  • Guide storytelling that translates LHB's technical excellence into market impact
  • Position LHB as a leader in design, innovation, and performance
  • Integrate thought leadership, public relations, and brand strategy to increase visibility
  • Define key performance indicators and regularly evaluate effectiveness of marketing and communications initiatives
  • Represent LHB at key community, professional, and industry events and organizations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Architecture, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 10+ years of direct experience in marketing, business development, public relations, and/or communications
  • Demonstrated experience leading and overseeing marketing, business development, and communication teams and activities
  • Demonstrated strategic planning success including experience developing, maintaining, and delivering on marketing plans to meet company objectives
  • Strong executive level communication skills
  • Ability to travel between LHB offices periodically
  • Upon receipt of an offer of employment, applicants must be able to successfully complete pre-employment onboarding requirements that will include a criminal/civil background check and drug screen, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

  • AEC industry experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of professional services firms and client driven marketing and business development strategies
  • Proficient with Deltek Vantagepoint, OpenAsset, CRM systems, and digital marketing platforms

Salary Range

  • This position's anticipated base salary range is $121,500 - $153,000 annually (This position is eligible for yearend bonuses). Offer will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity among our team.
