Sales Development Representative - Sheet Metal Fabrication Equipment

Just Sales Jobs

Guelph, ON • Hybrid

CA$68K/yr

Full-time

Posted 4 days ago

Job description

As a Sales Development Representative, you will sell the value of large industrial machines that cut, punch, and bend sheet metal into finished parts — including panel benders, punching machines, fiber lasers, press brakes, and combi machines — by qualifying manufacturing prospects for the outside sales team. You will be selling primarily to senior leadership (VP/Director) and executive or owner-level buyers at Canadian sheet-metal manufacturing companies. This role is 100% new business development — a phone- and email-based prospecting role with no account management or closing responsibility. Leads come from a mix of self-generated prospecting (approximately half), company-supplied lists, and inbound/warm leads. Customers are manufacturers across industries including HVAC, kitchen and catering equipment, job shops, elevators, office furniture, data centres, generators, and electrical equipment, located anywhere in Canada. This is a newly created position as part of a national sales team build-out, reporting directly to the Business Development Manager. The base salary is $68,840 CAD, plus commissions.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • $68,840 CAD base salary, plus uncapped commission, paid monthly
  • Year 1 OTE: $92,245 – $100,000+ CAD
  • $7,000 CAD signing bonus
  • Full relocation and living expense coverage for the required training period (housing, vehicle, travel, and living costs) — no personal cost to the candidate ( Hamilton, Ohio)
  • Health benefits (partially company paid)
  • RSP matching
  • Laptop, cell phone, and expense account provided
  • Further education reimbursement
  • Employee recognition, gifts, and rewards program; company social events
  • Hybrid work-from-home arrangement following the training period
  • 10 vacation days, 5 personal days
THE COMPANY & CULTURE

Our client was founded in 1963 and has operated in North America for over 40 years. The company is family-owned and is currently in a scale-up phase, growing 10–15% annually and actively building out its Canadian sales function. The North American headquarters is based in Hamilton, Ohio, USA, with a Canadian office in Guelph, Ontario. They design and manufacture large machines that cut, punch, and bend sheet metal into finished parts — panel benders, punching machines, fiber lasers, press brakes, and combi machines — for manufacturers across a wide range of industries. Their clients include AAON, Trane Technologies, Saginaw Controls, Steelcraft, and ProVia.

The culture is described by leadership as close-knit, with an open, engaged executive team involved in day-to-day operations at every level. Average employee tenure is 15–20 years, and turnover among new salespeople in their first 18 months has historically been 0%. The sales leadership style is best described as "work hard, play hard."

OFFICE LOCATION & SALES TERRITORY
  • Head Office (post-training): Guelph, Ontario, Canada
  • Initial training: full-time, on-site at the company's North American training campus in Hamilton, Ohio, USA, for a minimum of 3 months (up to approximately 6 months); all relocation, housing, vehicle, and living expenses are covered by the company
  • Work arrangement following training: Hybrid — a few days per week in the Guelph, Ontario office
  • Sales territory: All of Canada (national)
  • Selling is conducted primarily by phone, email, and video — this is an inside sales role with minimal on-site travel required
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week; business casual dress for any client-facing contact
  • Overnight travel: Approximately 5–10% (2–3 times per year)
EXPERIENCE, BACKGROUND & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • 1–3 years of B2B, phone-based, outbound sales experience — outbound call centre, inside sales, or similar phone-first backgrounds are relevant; recent graduates with approximately 1 year of relevant sales experience are encouraged to apply
  • Industry experience is not required — our client will train the right candidate on the product and the manufacturing processes involved
  • Comfort reaching and holding conversations with senior leadership and owner-level buyers is essential; candidates limited to junior-level contacts will struggle
  • University or college degree required; engineering or business-related education is viewed favourably
  • Valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle required
  • Must be willing and able to relocate temporarily to Hamilton, Ohio, USA for the training period, and must be eligible for a U.S. training visa
  • Passive, inbound-only, or order-taking sales backgrounds are not a fit for this role
TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Salesforce CRM — asset, not required (training provided)
  • LinkedIn Sales Navigator and ZoomInfo — assets
  • Standard proficiency in Microsoft Office is not required for this role
  • Must be confident and effective communicating by phone, email, and video
THE PRODUCT / SERVICE / SOLUTION
  • Panel benders
  • Punching machines
  • Fiber lasers
  • Press brakes
  • Combi machines
  • All products are large-format industrial machines used to cut, punch, and bend sheet metal into finished parts
PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS / INDUSTRY FOCUS / DECISION MAKER(S)
  • Canadian sheet-metal manufacturers across a wide range of verticals, including HVAC, kitchen and catering equipment, job shops, elevators, office furniture, data centres, generators, and electrical equipment
  • Ideal target accounts are approximately $10 million in annual revenue
  • Primary decision-makers: senior leadership (VP/Director) and executive or owner-level buyers, typically with about 3 people influencing each purchase
  • Customers are located across all of Canada
SALES CYCLE / ORDER VALUE / ACCOUNT SIZE
  • Average order value is approximately $1 million, with some opportunities reaching $20 million
  • Sales cycle length: approximately 6–18 months, reflecting long-cycle, high-value capital equipment purchases
  • Typically 4–6 sales calls or visits occur before a first order is placed
COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES
  • Widest range of panel benders on the market, originally invented by the company's founder
  • Automation and throughput capability that customers consistently describe as superior to competing equipment
  • Buyers choose this company primarily on capability and automation rather than price
TYPICAL DAY & DUTIES
  • 100% New Business Development

On a typical day, you will make outbound calls and send emails to Canadian sheet-metal manufacturers, qualify prospects on their manufacturing processes and technical requirements, set qualified appointments for the outside sales team, maintain detailed activity records in Salesforce, and collaborate with technical experts and colleagues who can join calls to support more complex conversations.

LEADS
  • Approximately 50% self-prospected pipeline — building your own target lists
  • Approximately 25% lists supplied by the company
  • Approximately 25% warm/inbound leads, including website enquiries and trade show leads
  • Significant outbound cold calling and prospecting is a core, ongoing expectation of this role
OVERNIGHT TRAVEL
  • Approximately 5–10% overnight travel (2–3 times per year)
  • Travel is for trade shows, company training, and select client visits — not required for regular day-to-day selling
SUPPORT & TRAINING
  • Structured onboarding: full-time, hands-on training on-site in Hamilton, Ohio, working alongside the existing sales development team, for a minimum of 3 months (up to approximately 6 months)
  • All training-period relocation, housing, vehicle, and living expenses covered by the company
  • Ongoing coaching from the Business Development Manager following onboarding
  • Access to technical experts, showroom personnel, and colleagues who can join calls and support your product knowledge
  • You will begin making calls within approximately the first six weeks, moving to full independence once you are comfortable
WHY YOU SHOULD APPLY
  • A clear, defined promotion path — advancement into an outside territory sales role is targeted at 12–18 months for strong performers
  • Fully funded relocation and training — no personal cost to you for the required training period, plus a $7,000 signing bonus
  • Uncapped commission with no ceiling on earning potential
  • Sell an industry-leading, in-demand product line into a growing manufacturing sector
  • A stable, low-turnover culture — average employee tenure of 15–20 years and 0% turnover among new salespeople in their first 18 months
  • No industry experience required — full product and technical training is provided
