Our New York City studio has an opening for a Business Development Leader. We operate under a hybrid work model that supports flexibility between office time and working from home.  

Position Summary: 

We are seeking a motivated Business Development Leader to drive growth in our New York City office and in the Tri-State area. This role is ideal for someone who excels at identifying decision-makers and building lasting relationships while collaborating with a talented team of designers. 

The ideal candidate is socially fearless, entrepreneurial, and ready to lead initiatives to uncover new opportunities, while also nurturing existing client relationships alongside local, regional, and national firm leaders. The successful candidate will be responsible for: 

Business Development 

  • Identify, research, and qualify pursuit leads while following up with stakeholders through multiple channels.
  • Cultivate and manage long-term client relationships, partnering with firm colleagues to maintain connections with current and former clients.
  • Develop a pipeline of qualified project leads and lead engagement in New York and the Tri-State area.
  • Actively participate in industry organizations and committees while familiarizing yourself with DLR Group's portfolio, experts, design ethos, and regional trends.
  • Collaborate on sector marketing strategies, annual business planning, and achieve ROI goals while minimizing non-strategic pursuits. Meet or exceed growth and fee targets, working with other Business Development Leaders regionally. 

Marketing 

  • Attend and coordinate industry conferences.
  • Prepare quarterly marketing reports, lead weekly business development strategy meetings, and maintain CRM and BD tracking reports.
  • Coordinate with teams for RFQ/P responses, review proposals, and assist with interview logistics, attending as needed.

 Required Qualifications:  

  • 5+ years of business development experience (preferably in marketing education, design, or construction, with a focus on architecture, engineering, or economic development)  
  • Familiarity with the AEC network in New York City and the Tri-State area
  • Proven experience in public procurement and proposal document preparation, including tailored language and persuasive storytelling 
  • Proficient in business planning and presentation software (Excel, PowerPoint) 
  • Excellent collaboration skills with clients, organizations, and internal teams 
  • Strong organizational abilities, adept at multitasking, prioritizing, and working under pressure 
  • Skilled in marketing strategy, relationship-building, and business development 
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, able to solve problems independently
