Job description

Job Purpose/Summary:
This position is responsible for playing a crucial role in the ongoing management of the ERP system and its integration with our critical business systems applications. This role is pivotal in ensuring the successful transition to new systems and its long-term effectiveness in supporting operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, a deep understanding of system integrations, excellent collaboration skills, business acumen, and the ability to work effectively across departments. This position requires a proactive, curious individual with a passion for learning and a commitment to maintaining the maintenance and continuous improvement of our core business applications.
This position will be in the IT department reporting directly to the Information Technology Director.
Essential Functions:
Software & Integration Support:
  • Responsible for the leadership and management of SAP technical upgrades. Performs a wide variety of functions pertaining to requirements analysis, development, testing, training, implementation, technical advising and support of new software systems utilizing SAP's package software solutions and other related technologies.
  • Work closely with internal business customers to support SAP and its integration with enterprise business applications. Participates in the development of integration plans, including API integrations, EDI implementations, and automation. Plans, conducts and reviews results of component functional and technical testing.
  • Collaborates with business customers and other analysts to plan and execute user acceptance testing for new and modified business processes and system components.
  • Tracks and resolves issues and obtains business customer signoff on tested processes and system components.
  • Assists in testing and validating integrations to ensure data integrity and system stability. Prepare training materials and conduct training sessions for key business customers.
  • Ensures successful transfer of knowledge across the organization.

Monitoring system performance and identifying and resolving technical issues.
Managing system upgrades and patches.
Ensuring system availability and reliability.
  • Governance and Security: Work with the Information Technology Director to establish and enforce governance policies for system changes and access, including:
  • Developing and maintaining documentation for system configurations and processes.
    • Implementing and managing user access controls and permissions.
    • Ensuring the security of the ERP and business systems and data.
    • Collaborating with the IT security team to implement security best practices.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders across different departments (e.g., Operations, Finance, Engineering) to understand their needs and ensure the systems meet their requirements. Translate business needs into technical requirements.

  • Data & AI Strategy: Work closely with the IT Director and IT Manager to lead the organization's data governance and AI Integration strategy, ensuring accuracy, security, compliance, and responsible use. Drive improvements in data quality, integration, and accessibility to support advanced analytics and business intelligence.

  • Business Acumen: Develop a deep understanding of Young Brothers' business operations and how the ERP and business systems support those operations. Identify opportunities to leverage the systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities for system optimization and improvement. Stay up to date with the latest technologies and best practices in ERP and Marine Operations systems. Continuously learn and expand technical skills.

  • Help Desk Support: Provide Tier II/III support with requests from various constituencies. Investigates and troubleshoots issues and participates in problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations. Required to be on call in a rotating schedule for IT Department Support

Leadership
  • May lead activities and/or projects to improve business processes and develop new or enhanced business applications and data systems.
  • May have project leadership responsibilities over other IT staff and business partners.
  • Be a leader for "Speak Up", including encouraging peers and staff to exhibit a safe and ethical culture.

OTHER DUTIES
  • Occasional travel required to outer-islands for support to Port locations
  • Occasional travel outside Hawaii may be required for training and/or meetings
  • Participate in on-call rotation for IT department support.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated business acumen and the ability to understand business processes.
  • Proven experience in working with ERP systems with experience leading and maintaining the integrations of ERP systems
  • Understanding database technologies, data warehouse concepts, and data management. Experience with SQL, ETL processes, and Microsoft Fabric for analytics and data engineering preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in the maritime or transportation industry is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure is a plus

Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a bachelor's degree (B. A.) in computer science/engineering, and 5-10 years of managing an ERP system and business process design. NetSuite certification, PMP certification, and experience in the Marine industry is a plus.
Working Conditions: Work is mostly performed in a 24-hour/365-day office environment sitting at a desk utilizing computer keyboard and telephone. May be required to work extended hours as needed to implement new production application systems and supporting infrastructure and to resolve complications with the same. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for a combination of on-site and remote work based on business needs and management approval.
Physical/Mental Demands: Work environment includes typical computer-related noise levels and paper and equipment generated dust. Exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis. Incumbent is on call to provide support services during off hours. Physical skill is required for keyboarding and use of peripheral equipment. Moderate lifting up to 25lbs. Requires frequent sitting, use of hand and fingers for handling or feeling objects; engage in verbal and written communication. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The workday usually has a high number of interruptions and priority changes necessitating the need to remain flexible and focused in order to accomplish tasks.
