Job Description / Essential Elements:
JOB TITLE: School Bus Driver Aide
Job Summary: The job of "School Bus Driver Aide" is done for the purpose/s of assisting the bus driver in the supervision of students while on the bus; assists students in the use of transportation equipment and facilities.
Essential Job Functions:
* Operates equipment (e.g. wheelchairs, wheelchair lifts, tie downs, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe transport of students.
* Assists bus drivers for the purpose of providing and monitoring specialized treatments for medically fragile students.
* Monitors students for the purpose of providing a safe environment while aboard the bus.
* Administers first aid and medication as directed for the purpose of providing appropriate care for medically fragile students.
* Assists students for the purpose of ensuring that the proper techniques are utilized in the loading and unloading of students and the proper use of safety equipment.
Other Job Functions:
* Participates in various activities (e.g. meetings, training, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information.
* Prepares documentation for the purpose of conveying information regarding student behavior.
Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:
* Experience Required:
Prior job related experience with special needs students preferred.
* Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skill to use English in verbal and written form, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, parents and administrators.
Knowledge of principles of child development.
Ability to sit for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies, rapidly learn methods and equipment in transportation. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity.
* Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Health Physical Clearance, Tuberculosis Testing/Clearance, CPR Certificate, American Red Cross First Aid
* Other Specialized Requirements:
Acquire Basic American Sign Language Certificate.

Bus Driver Aide positions are a minimum 4 hour per day, 5 days per week, 183 days per school year.
Employees new to the District are allowed salary schedule placement credit for up to two (2) years of previous experience with a maximum salary schedule entry placement for step three (3).
