Job description

H2Mโ€™s Industrial Hygiene and Forensics team supports clients, insurers, and project partners by investigating failures, exposures, and complex loss events to determine their cause and impact. From evaluating building materials, fires, and structural damage to assessing hazardous substances such as asbestos, chemicals, and contaminants, our engineers and scientists deliver clear, defensible findings.

We are seeking a dynamic Building Consultantย in the tri-state area with estimating experience in the restoration, insurance, and remediation field. This candidate will help us manage various projects focused on estimating large commercial, complex losses.

Insurance Adjusters with experience in the construction industry are encouraged to apply, as well as estimators with experience in reconstruction projects, roofing, and/or equivalent work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule and perform field inspections and necessary site visits to evaluate the scope of work/damage.
  • Cost estimate medium to large commercial and residential projects using industry standard estimating software (Xactimate) in the restoration, insurance, and remediation field.
  • Interface with clients and project representatives - adjusters, brokers, insureds, etc.
  • Document/review/analyze/schedule contracts, change orders, correspondence, daily reports, meeting minutes, monthly reports, and any additional documents related to the project file.
  • Provide technical direction to other consultants - interacting and providing support documentation.

Education & Qualifications

  • 5 to 7 years of estimating and related work experience in the restoration, insurance, and remediation field.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree highly desirable.ย 
  • PMP/RRO certifications are a plus.
  • Must have demonstrated experience estimating large commercial complex losses. Effective understanding of causes of loss, expected damage, and repair methods.
  • Experience should include restoration contracting field specializing in working with insurance companies and responsibilities related to scheduling, project management, and estimating.
  • Knowledge and experience in appraisal, mitigation, cost analysis, construction management, and disaster recovery.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills to produce expert reports to support our clients in making important high-value decisions.ย 
  • Proficiency in working with Xactimate, Symbility, RS Means, or other estimating software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.ย 
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated negotiation skills required.
  • Exceptional customer service skills to support and solve client questions and requests.
  • Ability to travel throughout the NYC tristate area. [Valid driverโ€™s license required]. Travel is required for this position, and you may be required to use your own vehicle for work related travel including travel to and from job sites if an H2M vehicle is not available. Due to the nature of the position, it is expected that you are able to work a flexible schedule which may include nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • As part of your role, you may be required to work in environments where the use of a respirator is necessary. In such cases, H2M will provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations. Therefore, you will be required to participate in any necessary respirator fit testing, training, and medical evaluations in accordance with OSHA standards and company policy.

The salary range for this position is $112,000 to $130,000 annually.ย 

The employment offer may deviate from this published range based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, specialty, knowledge, education, geography and/or related certifications โ€“ not related to any applicantโ€™s characteristics protected by local, state or federal law. ย Note: The salary or hourly rate indicated does not include other forms of compensation or benefits.
