Job description

Duties Description Reporting directly to the Sales Director under the strategic oversight of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Insurance Operations, the Broker Relations Manager ensures the overall administration, promotion, and execution, of NYSIF's broker relations team. Manage a team of Broker Relationship Specialists focused on driving revenue through independent agencies, brokerages, and aggregators. Your primary mission is to align carrier underwriting appetites with broker pipelines, optimize portfolio profitability, and elevate our brand as the carrier of choice.
The position will drive market expansion beyond traditional sectors to ensure NYSIF remains viable, solvent, and capable of delivering top-tier workers' compensation and disability/paid family leave services to New York businesses.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Team Leadership & Performance
โ€ข Manage and coach a regional team of Broker Relationship Specialists to hit monthly, quarterly, and annual premium targets.
โ€ข Establish clear KPIs for the team regarding broker visit frequencies, pipeline conversion rates, and new account appointments.
โ€ข Conduct regular pipeline reviews with team members to unblock high-value accounts.
โ€ข Broker Services: Provide direction and guidance to the broker services unit. This includes all "post-sale" service requests and complaint elevations.
Production & Portfolio Management
โ€ข Drive profitable premium growth across all core business lines by ensuring the team targets high-retention, high-margin broker business.
โ€ข Analyze premium data, loss ratios, submission-to-quote, and renewal metrics to optimize the health of the broker portfolio.
โ€ข Collaborate with Underwriting Leaders to clearly communicate appetite changes, coordinate co-authored appetite guides, and resolve friction points.
Strategic Broker Network Development
โ€ข Nurture executive-level partnerships with key regional broker principals, top producers, and network aggregators.
โ€ข Oversee the broker onboarding process, ensuring new partners receive proper portal training, product education, and marketing collateral.
โ€ข Design and implement a lead generation strategy specific to the agency by identifying and qualifying leads that will build a robust pipeline for future product expansion and sales development.
โ€ข Conduct introductory meetings with leads and cultivate relationships until they are ready for handoff to permanent broker relations staff.
โ€ข Develop Broker Dashboard: Lead the project to capture relevant broker data to a scalable dashboard. Collaborate with PHS, Customer Service and IT towards future stages of development and then maintain periodic updates.
Market Intelligence & Feedback Loops
โ€ข Gather field intelligence on competitor pricing, coverage enhancements, and technology platforms to advise internal product development.
โ€ข Represent the insurance company at national and regional industry conventions, trade shows, and broker panels.
โ€ข Analyze market trends and competitor offerings to make informed sales strategies
โ€ข Utilize CRM software to track all team interactions, map broker hierarchies, and generate executive distribution reports.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
โ€ข 11 years of extensive expertise within the New York insurance market, specifically regarding Workers' Compensation, Disability Benefits, and Paid Family Leave (PFL); OR
โ€ข Bachelors degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Business Administration, or related field and 7 years of extensive expertise within the New York insurance market, specifically regarding Workers' Compensation, Disability Benefits, and Paid Family Leave (PFL).
Preferred Qualifications:
โ€ข Proven track record of managing complex, cross-functional teams under tight production deadlines.
โ€ข Demonstrated experience designing lead-generation strategies, building sales pipelines, and managing partner relationships through sales lifecycle
