Training/Arrival Period (Required):

  • Move-in to the Residence Halls, Wednesday, September 2nd; 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. 

  • Training Begins, Thursday, September 3rd; 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. 

  • New Student Move-in: Friday, September 4; 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. 

  • Move-in Transition: Saturday, September 5 - Sunday, September 6 

    • Dates without timeframes will be defined for the staff member during the Training. 

Supervisor: Associate Dean of Students for Residence Life & Student Conduct/Designee

Wage Range: $12.00-13.00/hour

I. Description/Purpose of the Position: The Identity, Branding & Outreach Manager is an innovative student leader responsible for building a vibrant, welcoming residential experience. This role directs the members of the House of O: Creative Branding & Fashion Assistant, Housing Outreach Ambassador, and Visual Content Identity Assistants (Graphic Designer, Videographer, Photographer).

II. Transferable Skills:

  • Leadership & Team Management: Directing and mentoring a creative team of student assistants and designers effectively

  • Conflict Resolution: Handling public challenges, client feedback, and student housing concerns with professional care

  • Strategic Communication: Polishing and approving marketing content to ensure it accurately fits the campus brand

  • Project Oversight: Managing office hours, supervising student events, and tracking campus feedback loops smoothly.


III. Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Recruitment, Selection & Training:

  • Support the staffing process from onboarding, ongoing training, and supervision

  • Ability to address conflict and challenges within the public in a meaningful manner

  • Provide 1-1 ongoing mentoring to Housing Ambassador Assistants

  • Serve as a frontline approver for events and outreach activities to be submitted to one's supervisor. 

  1. Management:

    • Hold office hours in the student staff lead's dedicated area

    • Create positive experiences through networking events, marketing initiatives, and programming

    • Promote the office through identified clothing, tabling, presentations, and hosting events on and off campus

    • Participate in department and college events with Residence Life Professional Staff

    • Collect feedback, both quantitative and qualitative, to support departmental changes

    • Post creative and engaging content on social media to build awareness around the on-campus living experience

    • Follow up with individual residents and groups with on-campus living concerns

    • Collaborate with the Hall Council, Residence Hall Association, Residence Life Advisory Committee, and other identified entities to enhance the residential experience. 

  2. Marketing & Communications:

    • Knowledge of marketing, branding, and communications

    • Study to understand the needs of college-age students, residents of St.Olaf College, and student supporters, i.e., families

    • Comfort level with social media, specifically, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

    • Excellent communication skills: verbal and written

    • Relatability: Ability to share personal stories of life at St.Olaf College. The staff member must be able to understand and communicate the connection between residence life, on-campus living, and the college experience

    • Flexible and adaptable communication and engagement delivery to the space and the targeted audience

      1. Critique and edit marketing material to ensure it is on-brand and targets the identified audience.


IV. Requirements of This Position (Education):

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at St. Olaf College during the academic year and maintain good standing in academics and conduct

  • Must maintain a cumulative/semester GPA of 2.5. If a student staff member's GPA (semester/cumulative) falls below 2.5, their retention will be based on individual consultation

  • Students should have no pending cases, active sanctions, and/or resolved cases that would prevent effective performance as student staff members


V.Qualifications (Experience/Skills): 

  • Previous experience in marketing, retail/boutique management, event planning, or student leadership is highly preferred.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) or design platforms like Canva.

  • Exceptional public speaking, time management, and team-building abilities.

  • A digital portfolio demonstrating graphic design, photography, or video editing capabilities is required.
