Job description

U. S. Steel is seeking a motivated, organized and creative Marketing Communications & Brand Intern to support a wide range of corporate marketing and communications initiatives.
Working directly with the Director of Marketing Communications & Branding, the intern will gain hands-on experience across brand strategy, digital communications, content development, integrated marketing campaigns, events and special projects. The role will provide exposure to both the strategic and executional sides of marketing communications within a large, complex organization.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who is highly organized, curious, detail-oriented and comfortable managing multiple projects at once. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to contribute meaningful work, take ownership of projects and learn how an enterprise brand comes to life across channels and audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Brand & Marketing Communications
  • Support integrated marketing and brand initiatives, including advertising campaigns, digital content, sponsorships, events and other special projects.
  • Assist with the development, review and organization of marketing and communications materials.
  • Help ensure materials are consistent with U. S. Steel brand standards, messaging and visual identity.
  • Coordinate creative assets, feedback and approvals with internal teams, agencies and external partners.
  • Research marketing and communications trends and identify new ideas and opportunities for the brand.
Website Redesign & Digital Communications
  • Support a major company website redesign in partnership with the Marketing Communications & Branding team and external agency partners.
  • Assist with organizing, reviewing and tracking website content throughout the redesign process.
  • Maintain project trackers, content inventories, timelines and status updates to help keep the website project on schedule.
  • Coordinate content and feedback from internal stakeholders and help track approvals and outstanding items.
  • Assist with quality assurance and content review as new website pages are developed.
  • Support ongoing website content updates and other digital communications initiatives.

Content Development
  • Assist with drafting, editing and proofreading content for websites, social media, presentations, marketing materials and other communications.
  • Help organize photo, video and other creative assets for use across communications channels.
  • Identify opportunities to repurpose existing content across platforms and audiences.
  • Support content planning and editorial calendars as needed.
Events & Brand Experiences
  • Support the planning and execution of corporate events, customer experiences and brand activations.
  • Assist with invitations, attendee lists, event materials, presentations, signage and other event communications.
  • Help coordinate vendors, creative assets, production schedules and event logistics.
  • Provide on-site event support when appropriate.
Project Coordination
  • Maintain project timelines, trackers, meeting notes, action items and status updates across multiple initiatives.
  • Help coordinate meetings and follow up on project deliverables.
  • Organize creative files, brand assets and other communications resources.
  • Provide general support to the Marketing Communications & Branding team as priorities evolve.
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, Journalism or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with different teams and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated initiative, curiosity and willingness to learn.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous internship, campus organization or other relevant communications or marketing experience.
  • Experience with social media platforms and digital content.
  • Familiarity with content management systems, website projects or digital asset management.
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or other design/content tools.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics or other marketing measurement tools.
  • Interest in corporate communications, brand management and integrated marketing.
Schedule & Commitment
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
  • We are seeking a candidate interested in a long-term internship commitment, with the opportunity to continue in the role throughout the academic year and summer.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to balance a consistent work schedule with academic responsibilities and provide reliable support for ongoing projects and key initiatives.
What You'll Gain
  • This internship provides the opportunity to contribute to high-profile marketing and communications initiatives while gaining exposure to the full lifecycle of projects - from strategy and creative development through execution and measurement.
  • The intern will work alongside communications professionals, business leaders, creative agencies and external partners and will have opportunities to take ownership of defined projects. Through involvement in initiatives such as U. S. Steel's website redesign, integrated marketing campaigns, content development and major events, the intern will gain practical experience in how a large enterprise manages and evolves its brand across multiple audiences and channels.
