Job description

Senior Bookkeeper / Bookkeeping Team Lead

Full-Time | In-Office | Demorest, GA
$50,000–$55,000 annually, based on experience
Confidential Search | Established & Growing Professional Services Firm

Are You the Experienced Bookkeeper We're Looking For?

If you're an experienced bookkeeper who knows how to take ownership, solve problems, keep work moving, and be the person others can count on, we'd love to meet you.

We're looking for a seasoned bookkeeping professional to join our growing team in a key role combining hands-on client bookkeeping with team support and day-to-day office leadership.

This is not an entry-level bookkeeping position.

We're looking for someone who already has strong bookkeeping experience, understands the "why" behind the numbers, is highly comfortable in QuickBooks Online, and can confidently work through bookkeeping issues without needing step-by-step direction.

Just as importantly, we're looking for someone who enjoys being part of a team. Someone who is approachable, dependable, organized, professional, and willing to jump in, figure things out, and help others succeed.

The Role

As our Senior Bookkeeper / Bookkeeping Team Lead, you'll have two important areas of responsibility.

First, you'll manage bookkeeping for an assigned group of clients and help with more involved projects such as QuickBooks cleanups, catch-up work, conversions, reconciliations, and troubleshooting.

Second, you'll serve as an experienced day-to-day resource for our bookkeeping team, helping answer questions, review work, establish priorities, monitor deadlines, and keep client work moving forward.

We're looking for someone who doesn't simply identify a problem. We want someone who is comfortable researching it, thinking it through, proposing a solution, and following it through to completion.

You'll have the autonomy to handle routine decisions and responsibilities independently while using good judgment to recognize when additional input is needed.

What You'll Do

Lead, Support & Keep Work Moving

  • Serve as a trusted day-to-day resource for our bookkeeping team
  • Help team members work through bookkeeping and QuickBooks questions
  • Assist with prioritizing workloads, deadlines, and client requests
  • Review bookkeeping work for accuracy, completeness, and consistency
  • Help train, mentor, and support other team members
  • Monitor recurring workflows and month-end deadlines
  • Identify work that is falling behind and help get it back on track
  • Follow up on outstanding tasks, missing information, and client requests
  • Help improve internal processes, checklists, workflows, and SOPs
  • Handle routine office and operational matters confidently and independently
  • Help maintain an organized, positive, professional, and productive office
  • Take ownership of issues and follow them through to resolution

Manage Client Bookkeeping

  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for assigned clients
  • Perform and review bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Review Profit & Loss Statements and Balance Sheets for accuracy and reasonableness
  • Identify unusual balances, missing transactions, duplicate entries, unreconciled accounts, miscoded transactions, and other bookkeeping issues
  • Research discrepancies and make appropriate corrections
  • Maintain and reconcile loans, fixed assets, and related balance-sheet accounts
  • Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable as needed
  • Assist with payroll-related bookkeeping and reconciliations
  • Support month-end and year-end bookkeeping processes
  • Prepare accurate monthly financial reports
  • Complete QuickBooks Online setups, conversions, cleanups, and catch-up projects
  • Work through messy books and help turn them into accurate, organized financial records

Take Excellent Care of Clients

Our clients are business owners who rely on us, and great client service matters just as much as great bookkeeping.

You'll:

  • Communicate professionally and confidently with clients
  • Request missing documents and information and follow up when needed
  • Answer routine bookkeeping questions independently
  • Explain bookkeeping issues in plain language
  • Help clients understand what we need from them and why
  • Resolve routine client needs without unnecessary handoffs
  • Build strong, professional relationships with the clients you support

What We're Looking For

You May Be a Great Fit If You:

  • Have 5+ years of strong, hands-on, full-cycle bookkeeping experience
  • Are highly proficient in QuickBooks Online
  • Understand both the Profit & Loss Statement and the Balance Sheet
  • Know how to reconcile accounts and investigate discrepancies rather than simply force a reconciliation to work
  • Can look at a set of books and recognize when something doesn't make sense
  • Are comfortable managing multiple clients, priorities, and deadlines
  • Are organized and naturally follow through
  • Can work independently without needing constant direction
  • Are confident making routine decisions and solving problems
  • Communicate professionally with both clients and coworkers
  • Enjoy helping and mentoring less-experienced team members
  • Take ownership of your responsibilities
  • Care about accuracy and doing things the right way
  • Are willing to ask questions when needed, but also willing to research and find answers
  • Want to be part of a collaborative team where your experience is valued

Even Better If You Have:

  • Previous experience supervising, training, or mentoring employees
  • Experience in a bookkeeping, accounting, CPA, or professional-services firm
  • QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certification
  • Significant experience with bookkeeping cleanups and catch-up projects
  • Payroll experience
  • Experience creating or improving procedures, workflows, checklists, or SOPs
  • Accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or business education or professional certification

What Success Looks Like in This Role

You'll know you're succeeding when:

  • Client books are accurate, current, and moving forward on schedule
  • Month-end work is completed consistently and thoroughly
  • Problems are identified before they become bigger problems
  • Team members know they can come to you for knowledgeable guidance
  • Clients receive prompt, professional communication
  • Outstanding items don't get forgotten
  • You can confidently take ownership of your area of responsibility without waiting to be told what to do next
  • The office and bookkeeping team operate more smoothly because you're here

What We Offer

  • $50,000–$55,000 annual starting salary, depending on experience
  • Full-time, stable employment with a growing local firm
  • Monday–Friday professional office environment
  • A role where your bookkeeping experience and judgment will genuinely matter
  • Variety in your work across multiple business clients and industries
  • Opportunities to solve problems, improve processes, and help shape how our firm operates
  • A collaborative team environment where people help one another
  • The opportunity to grow with a company that is continuing to expand

A Note About Experience

We're intentionally looking for an experienced bookkeeping professional for this position.

You do not need to be a CPA, and this is not a high-level corporate accounting role. But you do need a strong working knowledge of bookkeeping and the confidence to manage books, troubleshoot issues, review financial statements, and help guide others.
