Job description

The Bookstore Student Employee is responsible for providing excellent customer service, assisting with daily store operations, and maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role offers an opportunity to gain valuable retail experience within a dynamic college setting.
Responsibilities:
  • Customer Service:
    • Greet customers warmly and assist them in locating textbooks, supplies, apparel, and other merchandise.
    • Process sales transactions accurately using the point-of-sale (POS) system, handling cash, credit cards, and student accounts.
    • Answer customer inquiries regarding product availability, pricing, returns, and store policies.
    • Provide information about textbook buyback programs and rental options.
    • Resolve customer issues and complaints politely and efficiently, escalating them to management when necessary.
  • Merchandising and Stocking:
    • Receive, unpack, and price merchandise, ensuring accurate inventory counts.
    • Stock shelves, displays, and racks, maintaining a visually appealing and organized store.
    • Assist with inventory management, including counting, tagging, and organizing products.
    • Help with setting up and taking down seasonal displays and promotions.
  • Operational Support:
    • Maintain a clean and tidy sales floor, checkout area, and stockroom.
    • Assist with opening and closing procedures, including cash register reconciliation and securing the store.
    • Operate and troubleshoot store equipment as needed (e.g., printers, scanners).
    • Adhere to all MCCA and store policies and procedures, including those related to safety and loss prevention.
    • Assist with online order fulfillment, including picking, packing, and preparing orders for pickup or shipment.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Work collaboratively with other student employees and store staff to ensure smooth operations.
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding customer feedback, stock issues, or operational concerns.
    • Participate in training sessions as required.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a currently enrolled student at Monroe Community College in good academic standing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic math skills and comfort handling cash transactions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally and stand for extended periods.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:
