Responsibilities
• Arrange type for print publications for a wide variety of genres including (but not limited to) middle grade novels, Proper Romance novels, cookbooks, academic publications, children's books, and religious texts.
• Work closely with designers, editors, and cross-functional partners to create world-class products
• Generate prepress proofs and press-ready files
• Quality-checking of text and overall details of press-ready files
• Upload files to press
• Prepare text files for handoff to the digital team and translation partners
• Be aware of current typesetting solutions and trends, practices, and publishing innovations
• Be a creative problem-solver
• Maintain orderly digital files and archives
• Willing to take on other non-job-specific roles as needed
Qualifications
• Ability to work on and track multiple projects simultaneously across various stages of production
• Bachelor's degree in Editing, Publishing, Visual Communications, Typography, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 2+ years of professional experience in book typesetting, prepress production, or comparable publishing role preferable
• Strong command of typographic principles and page composition
• Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Word; working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, and Photoshop
• Understanding of print-production workflows, color management, and file-delivery specifications
• Consistently produce accurate, error-free files within deadlines
• Work well with a team
• Comfortable receiving and providing clear, effective, and constructive feedback
• A portfolio that demonstrates strong visual typographic skills with experience in print
