Job description

SUMMARY

The Boiler Sales and Application Engineer delivers customer-facing sales and technical support within the assigned sales territory, focusing on achieving sales targets and delivering exceptional customer service. The role combines boiler plant technical expertise with advanced sales skills to provide clients with solutions for boiler applications, manage major project interactions, and work with the service and project management team to ensure successful conclusion of the sale. This role requires a fundamental understanding of boiler (ideally Cleaver-Brooks) products and a capacity for guiding engineering design with contractors and engineering teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales and Customer Relationship Management

  • Conduct on-site visits within the service area to meet sales objectives and enhance client relationships.
  • Prepare and present price quotations and bids, ensuring alignment with material, labor, and manufacturing schedules.
  • Enter customer and sales data into CRM (HubSpot), and maintain detailed, up-to-date records.
  • Build and sustain robust relationships with key purchasing contacts, including contractors, engineers, and owners.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and sales indicators to inform sales strategies.

Technical Sales and Engineering Support

  • Provide installation advice, turnkey solutions, and system design feedback to contractors and building owners, serving as the company’s technical liaison.
  • Lead project execution from initial design and project management stages, ensuring smooth handoff to the service and project management team.
  • Conduct equipment demonstrations and “Lunch and Learn” sessions for contractors, engineers, and clients.
  • Act as a critical technical resource for the client, offering expertise and advice with the goal of influencing the specification to include products within our distribution portfolio.
  • Participate in ASHRAE and similar industry events for professional development and networking.

Regulatory and Product Knowledge

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Cleaver-Brooks boiler applications and relevant industry standards, providing expertise to clients.
  • Coordinate factory visits for clients and engineers to enhance product understanding and customer engagement.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with project managers, inside sales engineers, and the service department to deliver cohesive, well-supported solutions to clients.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives to refine sales processes, improve team performance, and drive revenue growth.

COMPENSATION

  • As this is a sales role, the compensation has a base pay and an unlimited commission potential.
  • The base pay is $80,000 per year.
  • The Commission is 10% of profit for sales up to a target, 12% of profit up to the next target, and 15% of profit up to an unlimited level.
  • It is not uncommon for this role to earn a total compensation of $130,000 to $160,000; and on larger project years exceed $200,000.
  • ESOP Benefits are also in the range of 15% to 30% of base salary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, marine engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in sales with a focus on boiler or heavy industrial applications.
  • Skills: Strong communication, customer service, and negotiation abilities; proficiency in equipment and software applications relevant to the role.
