Job description

Job Title: Boiler Room Technician / Stationary Engineer

Job Description

This role supports critical facility operations at SFO Airport by operating, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting high-pressure boiler systems and associated equipment in a 24/7 environment. The Boiler Room Technician / Stationary Engineer ensures safe, efficient, and reliable performance of steam and hot water systems, water treatment processes, and energy management systems while working closely with maintenance and facilities teams to support continuous airport operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, inspect, and maintain high-pressure steam and hot water boiler systems to ensure safe and efficient performance.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on boilers, pumps, compressors, valves, gauges, and related mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic control systems to quickly identify and resolve operational issues.
  • Monitor energy management systems and facility equipment to maintain optimal performance and energy efficiency.
  • Test and treat boiler and cooling tower water, adjusting chemical levels to prevent corrosion, scaling, and other water-related issues.
  • Maintain accurate operating logs, maintenance records, and inspection reports in accordance with operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Respond promptly to equipment malfunctions and perform corrective maintenance to restore safe and reliable operation.
  • Inspect safety devices, alarms, relief valves, and control systems to verify proper function and compliance with safety standards.
  • Apply troubleshooting and critical thinking skills to diagnose complex issues and implement effective long-term solutions.
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Work collaboratively with maintenance and facilities teams to support continuous airport operations and minimize downtime.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 12 months of experience as a Boiler Operator, Stationary Engineer, or in a related industrial maintenance role.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong knowledge of boiler operations, steam systems, pumps, compressors, water treatment, and control systems.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, operating procedures, and maintenance documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities for mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to pass a drug screening, physical abilities assessment, hearing test, and vision test.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required airport security credentials.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding maintenance tasks.
  • Hands-on experience with boiler operation, steam boilers, preventative maintenance, and building automation systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Stationary Engineer certification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working in industrial facilities, utilities, transportation, manufacturing, or airport environments.
  • Experience with computerized energy management systems and building automation controls.
  • Experience working with conveyor systems, pumps, compressors, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with unionized work environments and seniority-based scheduling is beneficial.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $84198.40 - $84198.40/yr.
