Who We Are

The Edgewater offers a proud revival of a historic hotel, committed to the trust and confidence we earn from our employees, customers, and partners. We are located in the heart of downtown Madison, next door to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and within walking distance of Capitol Square. The Edgewater first opened its doors in 1948 and quickly became the city’s favorite place for waterfront relaxation. We’ve got a little something for everyone.

What We Accomplish Together

The Edgewater Hotel is looking for motivated individuals to support the Edgewater’s boat rental/food delivery program and pier operations. The idea candidate will enjoy interacting with people, being active and spending part of the day outdoors. This position will also have the opportunity to work on our Summer Brewgrass concert series concessions team. Responsibilities include:

  • Assist boaters docking at The Edgewater Pier.
  • Pier attend on busy weekend days.
  • Monitor boat and pedestrian traffic, assist Management with maintaining safety measures on The Edgewater Pier.
  • Monitor computer systems for incoming food and beverage orders, process those orders and customer payments.
  • Prepare and deliver food and beverage orders to pontoon rental boats.
  • Complete opening and closing duties associated with food and beverage delivery service at Edgewater Pier.
  • Coordinate with Madison Boats staff as needed.
  • Keeping pier clean and maintained, free of trash and debris.
  • Assist Engineering Team with maintaining waterfront and environment.
  • Stocking food and beverage items daily based on business volume.
  • Assist in Icehouse Concession Area, support Brewgrass Concert Events as needed.
  • Providing safe, courteous, and efficient customer service to guests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Have

  • No experience necessary. Experience in food & beverage service within a hotel/resort setting is a plus.
  • A safety-first mindset to ensure all staff and guests are in compliance with the rules and regulations of The Edgewater Pier area.
  • A caring, positive attitude with a genuine interest in ensuring our customers have memorable experiences.
  • The ability to multi-task and assist multiple guests at a time, including providing information about the Edgewater Hotel’s layout and offerings in other departments.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the desire to work in a team environment.
  • A self-driven, entrepreneurial attitude towards achieving your goals.
  • The ability to work outside and on your feet for most of each shift.
  • The focus to ensure correct order taking and prompt service while allowing guests the freedom to customize orders to their needs.
  • The ability to physically perform the duties required of a team member - including carrying food trays, delivering drinks, carrying drinking glasses, plate ware and flatware through kitchen areas, occasionally moving tables and chairs.
  • Ability to prepare basic food items in a concession setting.

Additional Qualifications

  • Must be available for a minimum of two (2) shifts per week and able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of boat safety.

Working Conditions

This position operates in a full-service, professional restaurant environment. Dockside Attendants are required to use standard restaurant equipment such as point-of-sale computers, cash registers, commercial glassware and plate ware cleaning systems, etc., and are required to work in our kitchen areas when assisting other team members. This position requires evening/weekend work.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching. Must be able to read, write and determine wait time based on Boathouse procedures. Must be able to visually scan restaurant for clean, unoccupied tables. The position spends the majority of their scheduled shift outside. The position may require occasional lifting of products weighing up to 30 pounds.
