MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Electrical Designer to join our team in Chesapeake, VA. This is a hybrid position with onsite presence expected once a month.
The designer will serve as a senior technical authority supporting U.S. Navy small boats and craft, providing advanced engineering and lifecycle sustainment. In this role, you will create detailed technical drawings, schematics, and layouts for electrical systems for Navy small boats using AutoCAD software. You will perform load calculations, select components, and ensure compliance with safety codes. This role will collaborate with engineers to support technical solutions for NSWC Combatant Craft Division.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Create electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD.
  • Design and modify power distribution, communications and control systems for shipboard systems.
  • Perform electrical load calculations, sizing, and equipment specifications.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to ABYC, Navy and DoD electrical codes.
  • Conduct site visits in the Norfolk, VA area to verify as-built conditions and validate design concepts.
  • Collaborate with engineers and waterfront technician teams to resolve design conflicts.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • 2+ years of experience with electrical systems, understanding of electrical theory, Navy shipboard systems, and/or electrical code requirements
  • Must be proficient in using AutoCAD to prepare detailed drawings, schematics and layouts from "as-built" documentation

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Electrical degree/certification
  • Experience with Navy small boats
  • 3+ years of electrical systems experience

Clearance Requirements:
  • Must be a US citizen with an active Secret clearance.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit at a computer 40 hours /week (can be at home) in some weeks, and in other weeks, attend a half-day trip locally to conduct a boat check. Boat access may require climbing a ladder.
