Job description
Operates basic radiologic equipment determining the quality and quantity of ionizing radiation to make quality radiographs on injured and/or sick patients as directed by physicians following accepted policies and procedures under the direction of radiologists.

Operates Equipment/Physiological Monitoring
- Operates Fluoroscopy equipment and demonstrates the proper way to transfer digital images to CPACS.
- Demonstrates knowledge of how to use quantitative analysis on the cath lab equipment.
- Demonstrate proficiency in operating the Contrast Injector and Manifold.
- Demonstrates knowledge of set-up and use of ultrasound systems, atherectomy devices, pressure monitoring tools, intravascular imaging, physiological assessment technologies, and laser equipment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the setup and operation of cardiovascular recording and hemodynamic monitoring systems.
- Thorough knowledge of and accurately documents all cardiovascular procedures and patient assessment.
- Demonstrates proficiency in physiologic recording of Left Heart Cath, Right and Left Heart Cath, Swan insertion, temporary pacemaker, Electrophysiology procedures, Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty procedures, Structural Heart procedures, and other procedures completed in the cardiac catheterization lab.
- Demonstrates the ability to interpret basic cardiac dysrhythmias.
- Demonstrates proficiency in trouble shooting of the physiological monitoring system when necessary.
- Obtains accurate patient information (labs, history & physical, consents).
- Operates and accurately documents blood glucose levels during cardiac procedures using point-of-care testing devices in the catheterization laboratory and performs and records activated clotting time procedures using whole blood analysis systems.
Quality Assurance Education and Training
- Performs Daily check of correct transfer of all images to digital storage.
- Ability to troubleshoot error messages on fluoro equipment / and digital storage.
- Knows the proper way to call Vendor service for problems on fluoro equipment / Maintenance.
- Maintains Radiation Protection equipment annually, Aprons, Thyroid Collars, Glasses.
- Maintains monthly film badges for all CCL personnel.
- Covers and maintains flexibility to cover emergency call shift.
- Participates in education and training of new staff members.
- Maintains ACLS and BLS.
- Completes house wide skills and Cath Lab specific skills.
- Responsible for accumulating continuous education credits to retain professional licensure.
- Attends 80% of the unit meetings and is responsible for 100% of the information shared at meetings.
Patient Preparation
- Demonstrates the ability to prepare patient for cardiovascular procedure by shaving area and prepping site using aseptic technique.
- Demonstrates the ability to drape patient for cardiovascular procedure.
- Demonstrates the ability to complete patient hook up to monitoring system, SAT monitor and NIBP system.
- Thorough knowledge of cardiovascular procedures to perform patient education as required.
- Familiar with location of supplies in Cath Lab suite and storage room.
- Demonstrates the ability to interpret basic cardiac dysrhythmia.
- Assists in stocking room each morning and in restocking the room when necessary.
- Assists with inventory processes as requested.
- Demonstrates the ability to accurately document all information, relative to the case. Assists with room turn-around.
Scrub Role
- Demonstrates an understanding of proper sterile technique relative to all cardiovascular procedures.
- Thorough knowledge and practice of proper handling of sterile supplies and equipment.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform a surgical scrub for cardiovascular procedures.
- Demonstrates proper tray preparation for all cardiovascular procedures, including left heart catheterization, right and left heart catheterization, Swan-Ganz catheter placement, arterial line placement, temporary pacemaker insertion, and percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty.
- Demonstrates proper technique of injecting coronary arteries with contrast.
- Thorough knowledge of proper handling of catheters, wires, sheath, with proper aspiration of flushing of catheters and sheaths.
- Demonstrates the ability and knowledge to connect Artery-lines to pressure monitoring systems of Cath Lab.
- Demonstrates knowledge and ability to remove Artery-lines and venous sheaths.
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and skill in performing sterile scrub techniques for a variety of cardiovascular procedures, including left and right heart catheterizations, pulmonary artery catheter placement, coronary angioplasty, temporary pacemaker insertion, electrophysiology studies, intravascular imaging, and rotational atherectomy.
- Performs the proper Preparation and Handling of all equipment used during a coronary intervention.
Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the department:
- Completes other job-related duties and projects assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR)(ACLS) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.
Education/Qualification:
- Maintains current State and National Registration for Radiologic Technologists or maintain a Limited Cardiac Cath Certification in Indiana and have an Indiana State License or Certificate as listed Under IC 25-1-1.1-4.
Knowledge & Skills
- Position patients.
- Practice aseptic techniques.

- Be able to operate all standard radiographic and special procedure equipment.

Working Conditions

Physical Demands
- Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e., to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
