Job description

Job Summary:

Velocity Clinical Research is the largest dedicated site management organization (SMO) in the United States, operating a network of 70+ company-owned research sites. We partner with sponsors and CROs to accelerate clinical trial start-up and deliver reliable, high-quality enrollment across a broad range of therapeutic areas. As we continue to scale, we're building a commercial team defined by relentless drive, collaboration, and a genuine passion for advancing clinical research.

We're looking for a Client Development Manager, Biotech to drive new business growth within the mid and emerging biotech segment. This is a high-output, high-energy role for someone who thrives on building relationships from the ground up — someone who wants to own their pipeline, move fast, and directly impact the growth trajectory of a leading clinical research organization.

You'll be at the front line of Velocity's growth engine: identifying, engaging, and developing relationships with mid-size and emerging biotech companies, helping them understand how Velocity's site network and operational model can solve their clinical trial execution challenges. This role is outbound-intensive and account-focused — you'll be expected to generate activity, build genuine rapport with biotech decision-makers, and convert relationships into meaningful commercial opportunities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify and engage mid-size and emerging biotech companies as new client targets
  • Build and manage a high-volume pipeline of outbound activity — calls, emails, LinkedIn outreach, and industry touchpoints
  • Develop authentic, consultative relationships with clinical, R&D, and business development leaders at target biotech companies
  • Clearly and credibly communicate Velocity's value proposition, site network capabilities, and track record to a scientifically sophisticated audience
  • Qualify opportunities and progress them through the pipeline in close partnership with senior Business Development and Feasibility teams
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date activity and pipeline records in the CRM
  • Represent Velocity at industry conferences, webinars, and networking events as needed
  • Continuously refine outreach approach based on market feedback, win/loss trends, and evolving biotech funding and pipeline dynamics
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Winner mindset — someone who treats setbacks as fuel, not friction
  • Results-oriented motivation — you measure your day by activity, conversations, and progress made
  • Strong teamwork orientation — you see yourself as part of a broader commercial engine, not a lone operator, and you actively support your teammates' success
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to earn credibility quickly with scientific and clinical audiences
  • Comfort with high-volume outbound prospecting and a genuine enjoyment of the hunt
  • Prior experience in life sciences, CRO/SMO, pharma, or biotech commercial roles is a plus, but a strong work ethic and coachability matter more than a perfect resume
  • Organized, self-motivated, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Life Sciences, Healthcare, Marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, account management, or related commercial roles.
  • 2+ years of progressive leadership experience, including direct people management responsibilities.(Suggested addition to align with Velocity manager-level roles.)
  • Demonstrated success leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and results.(Suggested addition.)
  • Proven success developing client relationships, generating new business opportunities, and managing a sales pipeline.
  • Strong leadership, communication, relationship management, and strategic problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working within the biotech, pharmaceutical, CRO, SMO, clinical research, or healthcare industry preferred.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications.

NOTE: The above Job Description is intended to communicate the general function of the mentioned position and by no means should be considered an exhaustive or complete outline of the specific tasks and functions that will be required.  Additionally, specific tasks and duties of the position are subject to change as the Company, the department and circumstances change.  All employees are expected to perform their duties within their ability as required by the job and/or as requested by management.
