JOB SUMMARY:
The Billing Department Manager is responsible for leading and planning the billing operations. The position is responsible for designing, implementing and enforcing policies and procedures, and streamlining effective billing processes across CEC and CESC.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Responsible for all staff members in the Billing Department. The scope of responsibility includes, but is not limited to, hiring, training, annual reviews, performance improvement, and progressive discipline.
  2. Develops and maintains all departmental policies and protocols as well as financial policies for patient accounting.
  3. Manages and oversees all collection and patient accounts activities for the clinic and surgery center.
  4. Manages and oversees all precertification and financial counseling activities for the clinic and surgery center.
  5. Develops and maintains all departmental policies and protocols as well as financial policies for patient accounting.
  6. Collaborates with other managers and supervisors over patient service areas to ensure accurate and comprehensive coding and charge capture.
  7. Maintains a Patient Financial Services dashboard report to track and trend key financial metrics including, but not limited to, total cash collections, AR days, point-of-service collections, billed charges, collection percentages, and claim denials.
  8. Conducts monthly Insurance Committee meeting for physicians to report key financial metrics and provide departmental updates.
  9. Co-manages all NextGen support, maintenance, and upgrade events with the Health Information Manager.
  10. Negotiates and maintains insurance contracts with private payors as well as private Medicare payors. Ensures compliance agreements and works with payor representatives to resolve disputes.
  11. Provides information as requested by CEO and physicians.
  12. Negotiates contracts with collection agency partners and ensures compliance with the Agreements.
  13. Institutes on-going customer service training for all staff members.
  14. Collaborates with Health Information Manager to ensure compliance with privacy laws.
  15. Collaborates with CFO to ensure proper handling of cash and cash posting. Conducts audits on a regular basis.
  16. Resolves patient complaints related to billing as needed.
  1. Provides assistance to the Lexington site manager as needed.
  2. Must comply with all HIPPA and safety policies, procedures, and regulations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and 3 to 5 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  2. Two years’ supervisory or management experience required.
KNOWLEDGE, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Knowledge of business management and basic accounting principles to direct the billing department.
  2. Competencies include excellent judgment, dependability, and diligence.
  3. High ethical standards and integrity.
  4. Strong organization skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
  • Full-time position with a work schedule of Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.
  • Position operates in a professional office environment requiring minimal physical activity.
