The job duties of a billboard installer are to prepare and install a sign on a billboard. They are responsible for the repair and upkeep of each billboard, and typically hang and remove each advertisement. Common maintenance responsibilities include painting, repairing trim and parts of the sign face, tightening bolts, changing light bulbs, and assembling any other structure as needed. Other duties include trimming brush away from the sign, weather damage repair, and minor electrical work. A billboard installer keeps work logs of their assignments and takes photos of each installation. Career qualifications to become a billboard installer include a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and completion of an OSHA 10-hour construction course.
