Job description

The City of Nashua is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Public Health Division as the Bilingual Medical Assistant. Take your career to the next level with us as opportunities for growth and development await!

JOB SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position provides support to the Nashua Division of Public Health and Community Services in the delivery of prevention, health education and health promotion activities. The Bilingual Medical Assistant works to assist with disease investigations, vaccine administration, and other duties to assist the nursing staff. This position will assist at clinics and outreach to provide language support and cultural guidance to ensure equity in service delivery. The Bilingual Medical Assistant will play an integral role interacting with diverse community groups to build trust, as well as establish and maintain community relations. This position is a combination of both clerical and clinical support. This position requires some weekends and several evening hours/weeks. This is a full-time Unaffiliated position, Monday through Friday 40 hours a week, but may also include some weekend and night hours. The position is Grade 13, salary dependent upon experience.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Skills and training in medical interpretation, and social support services.
  • Platforms such as Microsoft Office, Google and general technology literacy.
  • Knowledge of public health initiatives a plus, but will train.
  • Recognize and manage one's own behaviors, moods, and impulses to create an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment for all individuals
  • Efficiently train to competency with electronic medical record (EMR) and multiple databases
  • Communicate through excellent written and verbal skills
  • Work effectively in a team-focused environment
  • Comprehend concepts and solve practical problems.
  • Use strategic thinking and logical interpretation skills.
  • Write at appropriate education level, edit materials for literacy levels, prepare document translations.
  • Apply coping skills in high stress situations.
  • High School Graduate, GED or College Degree (2 years)
  • Licensed in the State of NH as a Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse
  • BLS for healthcare providers certification
  • 5 years relevant job experience or related work experience
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Portuguese preferred.
  • A valid driver's license
