The primary purpose of this position is: As an Air Reserve Technician (ART), accomplishes a variety of duties involving assisting in determining unit readiness and capability to perform its peacetime/wartime mission, to support programs and systems which ensure reserve members are properly trained and equipped in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein.

  • Provides direct support in planning, directing, implementing, and controlling all elements of the medical unit on a day-to-day basis.
  • Provides support toward conducting studies, collecting data and identifying trends.
  • Assists in reviewing status of training ad personnel assets for system reporting/Annual Tour.
  • Responsible for tracking unit funds and medical/non-medical supple expenditures and activities.
  • Monitors compliance with medical requirements to ensure timely completion and medical qualification of assigned personnel.

  • Incumbent assumes responsibility of the supervisor, in their absence.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in federal service (or equivalent in other pay systems) in which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is experience which includes experience working in a medical administrative office maintaining medical records, related correspondences and forms, scheduling physical examinations, and tracking medical unit requirements and suspenses.

Successful completion of one full year of graduate education in a field related to the position being filled. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100 percent. To combine education and experience, determine the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level. Then determine the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR TRANSCRIPT.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
  1. Knowledge of unit's medical service mission, organization, programs, and functions to include aspects of carrying out unit's medical training and administrative program to ensure medical mission can be effectively accomplished.
  2. Knowledge of practices, procedure, and methods used to measure the effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity or responsible medical programs.
  3. Knowledge of command structure and medical administrative concepts, theories, procedures and techniques, as well as specialized knowledge of wartime medical operations and missions.
  4. Knowledge of medical planning and programming concepts and a thorough knowledge of unit's medical mission, equipment specifications (Allowance Standards) and operational parameters.
  5. Knowledge of medical and administrative programs throughout the agency in order to conduct studies, analyze findings, and make recommendations on substantive program changes within the unit.
  6. Skill and ability to prepare project/staff reports and deliver briefings to high level officials as well as skilled in meeting with the public, presenting briefings and working with others.
  7. Ability to plan, organize, and communicate both orally and in writing.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS PERTAINING TO THIS POSITION:
This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow the incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbents regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is an Air Reserve Technician Enlisted position.
Air Reserve Technicians are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy Air Reserve Technician positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.
