Job description

Job Description:

  • Inspects various types of materials and parts for defects, flaws and other internal discontinuities by means of approved ultrasonic and eddy current inspection methods.

  • Determines quality of materials and parts by correlation of flaw indication with actual geometry, size and position.

  • Analyzes factors influencing flaw indications including but not limited to:

  • Inspection and auditing in accordance with work instructions, blueprints, specifications, manuals, Digital Design Media (DDM) and/ or management directives to determine product acceptance by approved visual examination, instruments, gages, tools and/or other methods.

  • Sets up and calibrates Non-Destructive Inspection tools/equipment.

  • Required to establish effective ultrasonic and eddy current inspection techniques and interpret indications and readings shown on oscilloscope or equivalent device in an accurate and dependable manner to obtain optimum results of ultrasonic and eddy current testing inspection.

  • Rejects all work, which fails to meet required standards or specifications.

  • May be required to use portable equipment, work aids, devise holding devices and work aids necessary in the performance of this job and direct the activities of other inspectors or operators in ultrasonic and eddy current inspection or testing.

  • Maintains adequate and proper records and prepares reports as required.

  • Perform preliminary review and/ or final disposition function in accordance with specifications and standards.

  • Must demonstrate an effective level of written and verbal skills to sufficiently communicate information related to this position, in a professional way.

  • Utilization of electronic systems and data administration such as: Electronic planning, CAMS, First Article Inspections, SAP, Enovia, VQM, surveillance systems, Kronos, calibration systems, etc.

Tools & Equipment Used:

  • Inspector’s hand and marking tools, machinist’s hand tools, precision-measuring instruments /machines/ equipment.

  • Special Ultrasonic and Eddy Current inspection equipment and other special gages, transducers, etc. as necessary.

Qualifications - External

Experience & Other Requirements:

  • Three years of ultrasonic and eddy current inspection and testing experience.

  • Must have held or currently hold certification as a Level II in Ultrasonic and Eddy Current inspection per NAS 410 and be able to re-certify at Bell.

  • New employees must re-certify prior to completing their probationary period at Bell.

  • Upgrading employees must re-certify prior to completing their upgrade trial period.

  • Ability to work independently or within a team and assist other inspection personnel as required.

  • Must be able to provide documentation of formal training and experience hours.
