Common Search & ComparisonYesYes

While both roles involve hospitality and guest service, a Bed Breakfast typically refers to a small lodging establishment offering overnight accommodations and breakfast, focusing on guest experience. A Housekeeper, on the other hand, is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the cleanliness of guest rooms and common areas in hotels or private homes. The roles overlap in hospitality settings but differ mainly in scope and responsibilities.

What are some common challenges faced by Bed and Breakfast staff, and how can I prepare for them?

Working at a Bed and Breakfast often involves wearing multiple hats, such as handling guest check-ins, preparing meals, and managing housekeeping tasks. A common challenge is balancing personalized guest service with the daily operational demands, especially during peak seasons when occupancy is high. Flexibility, strong communication skills, and the ability to multitask are essential. Being proactive, organized, and willing to step into different roles as needed will help you succeed and ensure a positive guest experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Bed and Breakfast Owner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Bed and Breakfast Owner, you need hospitality management knowledge, customer service skills, and often experience or certification in food safety and lodging operations. Familiarity with property management systems, online booking platforms, and basic accounting software is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities help you create a welcoming environment and handle guest needs effectively. These skills ensure smooth operations, positive guest experiences, and strong business performance in a competitive hospitality market.

What is a Bed and Breakfast?

A Bed and Breakfast, often abbreviated as B&B, is a small lodging establishment that offers overnight accommodation and breakfast, but usually does not provide other meals. B&Bs are often private homes or historic buildings where guests stay in a bedroom and are served a homemade breakfast in the morning. They are known for their cozy atmosphere and personalized service, providing a more intimate experience compared to hotels. Guests often enjoy unique decor and the opportunity to interact with local hosts, making B&Bs popular for travelers seeking charm and hospitality.

Job description

Bartender

Stanton House Inn
Greenwich, CT
$22–$24/hour based on experience
Full-Time or Part-Time

This isn’t a high-volume bar job. It’s closer to being the person who sets the tone for the evening — welcoming guests into a beautifully curated lounge, making thoughtful drinks, creating a great first impression, and knowing how to make people feel at home.

We’re building a bar/lounge experience that reflects where we are: local, welcoming, and intentional. That means excellent cocktails, a strong non-alcoholic program, and service that feels personal instead of rushed. If that sounds like work you’d be good at, keep reading.

What You’ll Do

A typical shift focuses on opening the lounge, preparing service, making drinks, and creating a relaxed, polished guest experience. You’ll work closely with the inn team to support a smooth handoff between daytime operations, evening lounge service, and any special events or private gatherings.

Responsibilities
  • Welcome guests into the lounge and provide warm, professional service from arrival through departure.
  • Prepare and serve beer, wine, cocktails, non-alcoholic drinks and light bites with consistency and care.
  • Build a thoughtful NA menu and recommend drinks based on guest preferences.
  • Learn and speak confidently about local spirits, wines, cider, and restaurants.
  • Set up, stock, and close the bar according to checklist and service standards.
  • Maintain clean, organized bar stations, glassware, and service areas.
  • Handle point-of-sale transactions accurately and responsibly.
  • Monitor guest comfort and alcohol consumption, and serve in accordance with all legal and house policies.
  • Keep the lounge welcoming, tidy, and ready for guests throughout the shift.
  • Assist with inventory, ordering, restocking, and product rotation as needed.
  • Help create a memorable guest experience that reflects the inn’s standard of warm, thoughtful hospitality.
Who You Are

You don’t need a fancy hospitality degree or a long bar background. We’re looking for someone who brings good instincts, presence, and genuine care for guests.

  • You make people feel welcome naturally.
  • You’re calm, organized, and comfortable behind a bar.
  • You can move efficiently without losing your attention to detail.
  • You know how to read a room and adjust your pace and approach.
  • You enjoy talking with guests and making thoughtful recommendations.
  • You’re excited about both classic cocktails and non-alcoholic beverage service.
  • You can work independently once the shift is underway.
  • You take pride in keeping a space polished, clean, and inviting.
Schedule
  • Shifts may include afternoons, evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Schedules may vary based on occupancy, events, and seasonal business needs.
  • Winter holiday closure may apply based on inn operations.
Requirements
  • Prior bartending or beverage service experience preferred.
  • TIPS, ServSafe Alcohol, or similar certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Must be 21+ and legally authorized to serve alcohol.
  • Reliable transportation to Greenwich, CT.
  • Comfortable standing for long periods and lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Able to work in a historic property environment, including stairs as needed.
  • Customer-facing service experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to follow all Connecticut alcohol service laws and house policies.
Benefits
  • Competitive hourly pay based on experience.
  • Tips shared according to house policy.
  • 401(k) with employer match, if applicable.
  • Room to grow through cross-training and advancement opportunities.
  • Support for ongoing hospitality development and beverage education.
