Job description

Role:

The Assistant Rodeo Coach supports the Head Rodeo Coach in all aspects of the collegiate rodeo program. Responsibilities include recruiting student-athletes, assisting with practices and competitions, promoting academic success, monitoring student-athlete development, and helping ensure compliance with institutional and rodeo association rules and regulations.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Head Rodeo Coach in planning, directing, and coaching the college rodeo program.
  • Develops student-athletes fullest potential while being regionally competitive and ensuring NIRA rules and regulation compliance.
  • Provides quality coaching and instruction to student-athletes participating in the rodeo program.
  • Assists in the supervision and coordination of rodeo event and activities, attend scheduled rodeo practices, team meetings and all competitions.
  • Assists with the recruitment of student-athletes: supports student-athletes in realizing individual, team, and academic goals.
  • Assists Head Rodeo Coach in providing ongoing oversight of student-athletes conduct both on and off the field.
  • Assist Head Rodeo Coach in general facilities maintenance to keep an overall clean and neat appearance.
  • Assists livestock care including feeding, doctoring, hauling, which may include oversight of student employees.
  • Assist Head Rodeo Coach with timely arena practice preparation including but not limited to watering, working of the ground as needed and taking initiative to help maintain the best arena conditions possible for safety of all livestock.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements:

  1. To understand the rules and regulations of National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
  2. To promote a positive atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation both within the College and the community.
  3. To demonstrate leadership on our campus through athletics.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Six months to two years of similar or related experience.

Education: A Bachelor's Degree.

Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.

Other Skills: BS degree in Agriculture or related field preferred plus 2-5 years' experience with college-level or high school rodeo. Must have knowledge of NIRA rules and regulations. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are necessary. Ability to maintain confidential information in professional manner. Rough stock riding experience and expertise preferred. Pick Up Man and Bullfighting experience a plus.

Physical Requirements: The work requires strenuous physical exertion such as frequent lifting of objects over 50 pounds such as bales of hay. Job requires above average agility, dexterity and stamina.

Work Environment: Work is primarily performed under limited supervision in a rodeo arena and in a variety of climatic conditions. Includes exposure to rodeo livestock, dust and associated hazards.
