What is a rodeo?

Rodeos are competitive events that showcase traditional skills of cowboys and cowgirls, such as riding broncos, roping cattle, barrel racing, and bull riding. Originating in the American West, rodeos have become popular sporting events in the United States, Canada, and other countries. They often include a series of events where participants demonstrate their abilities in handling livestock and performing daring feats. Rodeos also serve as cultural gatherings, celebrating Western heritage and traditions.

What are some common challenges faced by rodeo professionals, and how can new entrants prepare for them?

Rodeo professionals often face challenges such as physically demanding work, high risk of injury, and unpredictable schedules due to travel and event locations. New entrants should prioritize physical conditioning, learn proper safety techniques, and establish a strong support network within the rodeo community. Additionally, understanding the business side, such as securing sponsorships and managing finances, is essential for long-term sustainability in the field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a rodeo competitor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rodeo Competitor, you need excellent physical fitness, riding and roping skills, and a solid understanding of animal behavior, often supported by years of practice and sometimes formal training. Familiarity with rodeo equipment, safety gear, and event-specific rules is essential, while some competitors may benefit from certifications in animal handling or first aid. Mental toughness, quick decision-making, and resilience are critical soft skills that help performers handle high-pressure situations and frequent travel. These abilities ensure both safety and success in the demanding, competitive, and physically rigorous environment of professional rodeo events.

What are the different jobs at a rodeo?

Rodeo jobs include rodeo clown or barrelman, who entertains and ensures safety; bullfighters, who protect fallen riders; stock contractors, who provide and care for the animals; rodeo announcers, who host the event; and event officials, who oversee rules and safety. Other roles include gate attendants, judges, and event coordinators, all requiring knowledge of rodeo procedures and safety protocols.

Job description

We're looking for Grounds Crew Members to be part of something special: shaping and maintaining a golf experience unlike any other. This isn't just mowing grass—it's bringing a course to life and keeping it at its best. You'll work alongside an experienced team through every phase—from grow-in to full operation—ensuring the land is cared for and the turf performs at the highest level. One day, you might be seeding fairways. The next, you're watering by hand to keep dust down or prepping greens for their morning cut. This is work for those who love the outdoors, don't mind getting their hands dirty, and want to see the impact of their work every day.

Where soul-stirring golf meets the spirit of the American West.

Rodeo Dunes is a public golf resort developed by Michael Keiser, owner of Sand Valley Resort. Set on over 4,000 acres of towering sand dunes reminiscent of the southwest coast of Ireland, Rodeo Dunes is set to become a world-class golf destination. Two course routings are complete – one by the acclaimed duo of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, and the other marking the solo debut of longtime C&C associate, Jimmy Craig. Construction began in the summer of 2024. With a rollicking, sandy dunescape, welcoming Western hospitality, and inspiring long views of the Rocky Mountains, Rodeo Dunes will introduce guests to a historic - but new to many - region of Colorado. Rodeo Dunes is located less than an hour from Denver and Denver International Airport, and just a short drive from the Fort Collins and Colorado Springs areas. The resort will embody similar philosophies and values that have made Bandon Dunes and Sand Valley two of the world’s top golf destinations.

What You’ll Do:
  • Support turf grow-in and ongoing course maintenance across tees, fairways, and greens
  • Hand-pick sticks and debris to keep playing surfaces clean and playable (because details matter)
  • Manage irrigation and hand-water to control dust, support turf establishment, and maintain playing conditions
  • Fertilize, seed, and nurture turf through grow-in and into peak playing condition
  • Mow and maintain turf to course standards as grow-in progresses and play increases
  • Work outside in all kinds of weather—because nature doesn't take a day off
  • Adapt seamlessly between grow-in responsibilities and full maintenance operations as the resort evolves
  • Perform daily maintenance tasks on the golf course, grounds, maintenance facility, and clubhouse as assigned
  • Handle equipment safely whether in an active grow-in environment or routine maintenance operations
What You Bring:
  • Experience in golf course maintenance, landscaping, or similar work?
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to safely operate equipment.
  • An understanding that safety comes first—especially around heavy machinery.
  • A positive attitude, a team mindset, and the ability to take direction.
  • The ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects (up to 100 lbs. occasionally).
  • The stamina to be on your feet, in motion, and engaged with the land for extended periods.
This range represents the anticipated low and high wage for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience, education, skills, and performance. In addition we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, a retirement plan, and paid time off for full time employees.

Posting End Date: May 30, 2026
Take advantage of this chance to be part of something extraordinary. Your journey to greatness starts here at Rodeo Dunes Golf Resort. Join us, and let's create unforgettable experiences together.
