Job description

The Saturday Night Lights Basketball Program is a dynamic initiative designed to engage youth ages 11 to 18 in structured, skill-building basketball activities. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Basketball Coach to lead training sessions, organize games and tournaments, and inspire young athletes through mentorship and exposure to professional-level basketball.

Location: 876 Schenck Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11207
Schedule: Saturdays, 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM (Up to 5 hours/week)
Reports To: Director of Youth Services

Salary: $22 - $30 per hour

Key Responsibilities

  • Skillset Training: Design and lead training sessions focused on basketball fundamentals including shooting, dribbling, passing, defense, and teamwork.
  • Basketball Drills: Implement drills to improve agility, speed, endurance, and overall performance.
  • Internal Games & Tournaments: Organize and supervise competitive games and tournaments within the program.
  • Off-Site Tournament Attendance: Accompany participants to external tournaments, providing coaching and support.
  • Professional & College Game Attendance: Attend games to observe strategies and share insights with participants.
  • Equipment Management: Ensure basketball equipment is properly maintained and available for use.
  • Youth Recruitment: Actively recruit youth aged 11–18 to join the program, collaborating with outreach and marketing teams.
  • Communication: Maintain clear and professional communication with staff, supervisors, and participants.
  • Safety & Inclusion: Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants.
  • CPR Certification: Hold or be willing to obtain CPR certification to ensure participant safety.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience coaching basketball, preferably with youth aged 11–18.
  • Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and rules.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional, punctual, and reliable.
  • Passion for youth development and mentorship.
  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
  • CPR certification or willingness to become certified.
