What are barcode scanners and what do they do?

Barcode scanners are electronic devices used to read and interpret barcodes, which are machine-readable representations of data. They work by emitting light onto a barcode and then capturing the reflected light to convert it into digital information. This data is then sent to a computer or inventory system for processing.
