The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.
Summary of Job Function
  • Supervises, coordinates and participates in activities of employees performing routine, standardized biological and/or biochemical tests, as well as more complex procedures on blood that assist physicians in the diagnosis and clinical management of patients,
  • Assumes responsibility for recognizing results or problems that require referral to Medical Director or Laboratory Director/Manager,
  • Performs additional tasks as requested by the Chair of Pathology or his/her designee,
  • Insure that [unit/department/division] is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations,
  • Completes tasks and assignments in a timely, accurate and efficient manner,
  • Remains positive and focused despite obstacles and setbacks,
  • Uses sound employee relations practices and maintains high levels of visibility and accessibility,
  • Follows through on all customer requests and inquiries in a timely fashion,
  • Determines priorities and organizes work and time to meet them,
  • Follows sound employee retention techniques; effective selection and interviewing, recognition, fair and timely discipline, and ongoing performance feedback,
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency in completing assignments,
  • Organizes multiple assignments and/or projects simultaneously to accomplish goals,
  • Effectively allocates and schedules resources,
  • Able to project and appropriately staff the unit/department to effectively function to demand,
  • Utilizes resources, both labor and non-labor to maximize efficiency and quality,
  • Interacts constructively, tactfully and diplomatically with others and resolves conflicts effectively,
  • Demonstrates cultural competency and ability to maintain a diverse workforce,
  • Maintains positive relationships with all customers, employee, physician, patient, visitor, and guests,
  • Utilizes a variety of feedback to improve processes and services to meet and exceed customer needs,
  • Contributes to improving quality services and productivity (takes the initiative to continually evaluate one s work, report problems, suggest solutions and try new ideas),
  • Utilizes principles of CQI in all work situations,
  • Seeks feedback and recommendations from others to improve the quality, processes and services,
  • Adheres to budgetary guidelines and targets-proactively manages budget variances and causes,

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical, biological or equivalent to be requirement of a technical personnel qualification based on CLIA and CAP,
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in area of responsibility
  • ASCP or AMT certification preferred
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint required

Special Equipment/Skills
Constant decision-making involving a high degree of resourcefulness, initiative and careful analysis to deal with changing day-to-day matters,
Meets on regular basis with the direct reports (supervisors and staff) in regards to the activities of the section/department,
May work weekends and off-hours as determined by the needs of the department,
Significant contacts as a regular part of the job with others outside the department or outside the Medical Center, requires discretion and courtesy to give or get information to perform the duties or job,
