POSITION SUMMARY

The incumbent will assist the band director in providing musical and/or auxiliary instruction for students and present them in performance as part of that instruction. This is a part time position classified as "seasonal." This position will receive a one-time supplement payment at the end of the fall marching band season. The incumbent must successfully complete the Atlanta Public Schools Human Resources hiring process and background check.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:

• High School Diploma/GED required
• Bachelor's degree preferred

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:

• N/A

WORK EXPEREINCE:

• Experience working with youth
• Experience with musical, dancing or related instruction

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Written and oral communication
• Instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners
• Ability to manage students individually and as a group

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance as outlined by the band director
• Assists in the instructional delivery of the band/dance curriculum
• Instructs students on their instruments/dance, at their level, and ensure each student's progress by providing as much individualization as possible
• Assists in preparing the band/other instrumental groups/auxiliary groups for appropriate public performances in keeping with the expectations of the director, school principal, fine and performing arts coordinator, and community
• Supervises students at all performances, rehearsals and on trips
• Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator
• Required to attend scheduled shift during regular business hours as mandated

Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use hands to grasp and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.

Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 15 or more pounds on a frequent basis.

Environmental Requirements: Ability to encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors.

Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records. Understand how to manage stress

Additional Work Conditions & Physical Abilities:  Will require travel to multiple sites.
