Support the Spivey Hall Children's Choir (SHCC) Program by accompanying and assisting the director of the Spivey Hall Young Artists (SHYA) choir. Founded in 2002, the SHYA features 50-60 treble singers ages 10-13. Rehearsing each Monday evening from 6:30-8:00 PM, the SHYA serves as the preparatory choir of the SHCC Program, equipping singers with the skills they need to participate in the Spivey Hall Children's Choir.
Responsibilities
- 50% - Accompany the Spivey Hall Young Artists during weekly rehearsals and all scheduled performances (minimum two Spivey Hall performances per year).
- 25% - Implement the sight singing and theory curriculum by preparing, teaching lessons & assessing students during weekly rehearsals.
- 10% - Assist the SHYA director in developing the musicianship of the choir by sharing the passion & vision of the SHCC. If needed, lead weekly rehearsal in absence of the SHYA conductor.
- 5% - Represent the interests of the SHYA through attendance at SHCCP staff meetings and participation in SHCCP functions.
- 10% - Accompany and in the capacity of assistant director, plan and act as faculty for one-week Spivey Hall Summer Music June day camp
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with piano emphasis required.
- 3+ years of experience accompanying high quality choral ensembles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or equivalent experience.
- Choral Emphasis.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of treble choral literature & adolescent vocal needs a plus.
- Exceptional piano skills essential.
- Ability to effectively communicate basic theory/sight singing skills to students.
- Ability to foster relationships with students and help develop their musicianship skills.
