Job Overview

Our nursing team operates in collaborative settings alongside strong interdisciplinary groups, emphasizing a patient-centered care approach within a richly diverse environment. Under the guidance and general oversight of the Nurse Manager, the registered nurse employs evidence-based practices in line with the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies, and directives from the medical staff. Utilizing their knowledge and skills, the registered nurse formulates a care plan that addresses the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of both patients and their families.

QualificationsMinimum Requirements
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Experience: At least one (1) year of experience and/or successful completion of the Nurse Residency Program at Backus Hospital.
  • License and Certification: Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in good standing in the State of Connecticut. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire. Must be able to obtain and maintain department-specific certifications.
Preferred Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
  • Experience: Two (2) or more years of experience in the relevant clinical area.
  • License and Certification: Certification in the clinical specialty area. CNOR certification is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Fundamental understanding of nursing principles and practices.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Effective communication skills for conveying technical or complex information and instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with departments, colleagues, physicians, management, and patients.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities, demonstrate flexibility, and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Aptitude for functioning in a high-pressure environment.
  • Dedication to customer service.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and retrieval.
