What is an Azure TS SCI?

An Azure TS SCI refers to a professional who works with Microsoft Azure cloud services and holds a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance. These specialists typically manage, secure, or develop cloud solutions for government agencies or contractors handling classified information. The TS/SCI clearance indicates that the individual is authorized to access highly sensitive data and work on projects critical to national security. Their role often involves implementing strict security protocols, monitoring cloud environments, and ensuring compliance with government regulations.

What key skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an Azure TS SCI, and why are they important?

To excel as an Azure TS/SCI Technical Specialist, you need a strong background in cloud computing, cybersecurity, and information systems, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in a technical field and an active TS/SCI security clearance. Experience with Microsoft Azure, security compliance tools (such as Azure Security Center), and certifications like Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert are highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you address sensitive client needs and collaborate securely. These competencies are crucial for safeguarding classified information, ensuring operational integrity, and delivering secure cloud solutions to government or defense clients.

What are some common challenges faced by Azure TS SCI professionals when working on secure cloud environments?

Azure TS SCI professionals often encounter challenges related to strict security compliance and access controls, as they work with highly sensitive government or defense data. Navigating complex security protocols, staying current with evolving government regulations, and ensuring all cloud solutions meet rigorous accreditation standards are daily concerns. Collaboration across multidisciplinary teams—often involving security, network, and application experts—is essential to address these challenges and maintain secure, efficient cloud operations. This environment requires strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to rapidly changing requirements.

Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Cloud Engineer to join our team! You will be the program's go-to expert for all things Azure, from landing zone design and identity to migration, automation, security compliance and FinOps support.
This is your opportunity to shape a dynamic hybrid cloud environment from the ground up on a program that directly supports national security missions.
What You'll Be Doing

  • Architect and maintain landing zones, subscription/management group structure, and governance via CSP Policy, RBAC, and other security tools
  • Help design and implement dynamic deployment methods based on customer needs, system telemetry, and other factors
  • Plan and execute workload migrations from on-premises environments to the cloud, including assessment, right-sizing, cutover, and validation
  • Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools; automate operational tasks
  • Implement backup, disaster recovery, and continuity/resilience solutions using CSP-specific tools and on-premises tooling
  • Harden cloud systems in accordance with DoD STIGs, CIS benchmarks, and DISA cloud computing SRG requirements; support RMF assessment and authorization activities with required artifacts and evidence in support of Authority to Test
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting for all cloud resources; ensure audit logging meets NIST SP 800-53 (AU family) requirements
  • Manage cloud cost optimization, capacity planning, and performance tuning across the hybrid environment
  • Develop and maintain architecture documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures; mentor junior engineers

What Required Skills You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline; additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • 8+ years of IT infrastructure experience, including 4+ years of hands-on cloud engineering
  • Deep expertise in IaaS and core platform services: virtual machines, virtual networks, storage, security, identity, policy, and RBAC
  • Experience designing and operating hybrid environments, including hybrid identity and connectivity
  • Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code and automation
  • Certified cloud solutions architect
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance, may require a polygraph

What Desired Skills You'll Bring
  • Experience with classified cloud regions
  • Experience applying DISA Cloud Computing SRG, FedRAMP, and DoD Impact Level (IL4/IL5/IL6/IL7) requirements
  • Experience supporting RMF authorization packages (eMASS/XACTA) and security assessments in DoD/IC environments
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (AKS, Docker) and CI/CD pipelines (DevOps, GitLab)
  • Experience with cloud security automation
  • Experience working in SCIF or air gapped environments and with disconnected/limited-connectivity cloud patterns
  • CISSP or CCSP certification
