Job description

 The Azure Systems Administrator (VDI / End User Compute) is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing the organization's virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) across both on-premises Ominissa Horizon and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments.
This role focuses on ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performing desktop delivery platforms while supporting the transition from legacy VDI infrastructure to modern, cloud-based solutions.
The position operates as a Tier 2/3 technical resource, responsible for troubleshooting, performance tuning, and contributing to continuous improvement and automation initiatives across VDI platforms.
Essential Functions:
  • Own the design, architecture, and lifecycle strategy of the Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) platform
  • Define and maintain VDI platform standards, configurations, and governance controls
  • Lead capacity planning, scaling strategy, and long-term platform optimization
  • Monitor system health, performance, and availability
  • Perform maintenance including patching, updates, and image management
  • Manage golden images, host pools, and desktop pools
  • Troubleshoot session performance, connectivity, login and profile issues
  • Act as Azure escalation point for Desktop Support and our Call Center IT team
  • Exercise independent judgment in resolving complex system challenges impacting business operations
Secondary Functions: 
  • Assist the Cloud Systems team with other workload requirements
  • Support failover and DR processes
  • Analyze usage trends and resource consumption
  • Optimize for performance and cost efficiency
  • Support implementation of security controls
  • Assist in hardening VDI images
  • Identify automation opportunities
  • Contribute to scripting and documentation
  • Other duties as assigned by the VP of IT Operations and Information Security Manager

Education/Certifications:
  • Associates degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty (AZ-140)
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator (AZ-104)

Experience:
  • 2+ years VDI/Azure experience
  • Experience with Ominissa Horizon and Azure Virtual Desktop
  • Knowledge of Azure Cloud and Windows Desktop environments 
    • Microsoft ENTRA experience
    • Microsoft Intune experience

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) administration
  • Ominissa/VMware Horizon administration and troubleshooting
  • Windows 10/11 desktop support in VDI environments
  • Active Directory / Microsoft Entra ID management
  • VDI architecture fundamentals (pools, images, session hosts)
  • Basic networking (DNS, VPN, latency troubleshooting)
  • System monitoring and performance analysis
  • Patch management and image lifecycle management
  • Ability to operate as Tier 2/3 escalation for complex incidents involving VDI and Azure 
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
