We are currently seeking a VMWare Systems Administrator to support operations in Quantico, VA. This is a full-time, CONUS position requiring an active DoD Top Secret/SCI.
The base salary range for this role is $77,000 to $143,000 annually, depending on geographic location and experience. The final offer will be based on relevant experience, skills, internal equity, and market data.
What You'll Do
As a VMWare Systems Administrator, you will play a critical role in Quantico, VA, that serve U.S. government missions oversees. This role falls under Virtual Systems Administrator in our ERI compensation structure. You will:
Specialize in designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining enterprise-grade virtualized infrastructures. This role requires broad expertise across VMware technologies as well as Windows-based enterprise services to ensure stable, secure, and highly available environments.
Virtualization & Infrastructure Management
  • Manage, optimize, and maintain VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, resource management, and distributed switching.
  • Administer and troubleshoot clustered architectures leveraging vSAN, vMotion, Storage vMotion, DRS, and HA to ensure uninterrupted service availability.
  • Monitor and support shared storage platforms (vSAN, iSCSI, NFS, FC) and understand their role in VM mobility and host clustering.
Windows Enterprise Services Administration
  • Support virtualized Windows Server workloads, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, LDAP, and PKI/Certificate Services.
  • Ensure seamless integration between VMware infrastructure and Windows-based identity, authentication, and certificate components.
System Hardening & Security Compliance
  • Implement, maintain, and validate STIG-compliant baselines for ESXi hosts, vCenter, and Windows Server systems.
  • Utilize VMware Security Configuration Guides, DoD STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, STIG Viewer, and PowerCLI to maintain hardened configurations.
  • Perform routine audits and remediation to ensure compliance with organizational and federal security requirements.
Design & Implementation
  • Design and deploy virtual infrastructure solutions-including clusters, shared storage, networking, and lifecycle management-following best practices for performance and security.
  • Develop templates, golden images, and standard operating procedures to support consistent VM deployments and secure configurations.
Collaboration & Support
  • Collaborate with systems, network, and cyber engineers to deliver and maintain reliable, secure enterprise environments.
  • Troubleshoot complex virtualization and Windows-based issues.
  • Administers, designs, implements, supports, and maintains operations for an organization's VMware environment infrastructure.
  • Oversees performance tuning and monitors performance of server systems, including uptime, failover, anti-viral, and anti-spamming.
  • Sets up and maintains fault tolerances, and monitors and manages accounts.
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications:
  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelors 's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience required; 7 + years may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Strong proficiency with VMWare vSphere, vSAN, vMotion, HA/DRS,and enterprise virtualization management.
    • Hands-on experience managing Windows Server enterprise environments, including AD, DNS, PKI, Group Policy, and LDAP-backed authentication.
    • Familiarity with networking concepts (VLANs, routing, distributed switching, firewall rules) and storage architectures.
    • Experience applying STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, or other hardening frameworks to both VMWare and Windows systems.
  • Certifications:
  • VMWare Certified Professional (VCP) required; VMWare Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) preferred.
  • Windows certifications (e.g., MCSA/MCSE or equivalent)
  • Required Clearance Level:
    • Must have a current and active DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
    • Proficient with modern IT tools and infrastructure technologies

Preferred (Nice to Have):
  • Experience with scripting or automation tools (PowerCLI, PowerShell, Python).
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
Travel & Passport
  • Up to 10% travel; some overnight stays possible.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Periods of prolonged sitting and/or standing, including desk-based computer work.
  • Travel between work locations, including company offices, customer sites, and government installations.
  • Occasional extended work hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed.
  • Transport and use of work equipment, such as laptops and job-related tools, during site visits.
  • Work is performed in a secure facility where personal electronic devices (including Bluetooth- or Wi-Fi-enabled devices) may be restricted.
  • Communication with team members, customers, and stakeholders through verbal and written methods.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, work under deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Interaction with others in dynamic environments, including situations requiring problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Compliance with vaccination and medical requirements for TDY/OCONUS roles as per Vaccine Recommendations by AOR | Health.mil.
