Job description

Principal Finance Systems Administrator
Department: Finance
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: Chicago
Compensation: $144,000 - $219,000 / year
Description
We are seeking a highly strategic, detail-oriented, and experienced Principal Finance Systems Administrator to join our Global Finance Operations team. This role serves as the architectural backbone and primary owner of our enterprise financial tech stack, anchored by NetSuite and Coupa.
As a hands-on technical leader, you will oversee system configuration, compliance, automation, and critical data pipelines. A massive component of this role involves owning our end-to-end financial integrations, ensuring seamless data flow between NetSuite, Coupa, banking portals, and any other applications.
This is an ideal role for a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of finance workflows and a proven track record of scaling high-growth financial ecosystem infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Ecosystem Architecture & Administration: Serve as the primary administrator and architect for NetSuite and Coupa Spend Management. Lead system upgrades, configuration changes, custom fields, workflows, and user access provisions.
Integration Ownership: Design, build, monitor, and maintain robust automated integrations into Netsuite, including Coupa, Concur, and complex global banking portals (via EDI/API/SFTP). Move away from a siloed "portfolio model" by natively absorbing acquired technologies directly into the core SaaS architecture.
Technical Triage & Optimization: Act as the ultimate escalation point for complex technical issues, system bugs, and synchronization errors. Triage integration data mismatches and "break-fix" scenarios with internal IT and external vendor support teams.
Compliance & Governance: Ensure all financial systems and custom workflows strictly comply with internal controls, SOX compliance guidelines, IT General Controls (ITGC), and standard data privacy regulations.
Business Partnership & Roadmap: Collaborate closely with accounting, FP&A, procurement, and sales ops teams to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions and system enhancements.
Automation & Scripting: Support and optimize existing automation scripts (SuiteScript, Python, JavaScript) and middleware tools (e.g., MuleSoft) to reduce manual accounting work and streamline the month-end close process.
SOP & Runbook Authoring: Author, update, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, system runbooks, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure absolute transparency across our technical environments.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Skills & Experience
Deep Domain Expertise: 10+ years of progressive technical experience in financial system administration, with an absolute emphasis on NetSuite and Coupa enterprise management.
Integration Expertise: Proven track record of architecting and managing API, EDI, and SFTP-based integrations. Deep knowledge of syncing financial data across Salesforce, procurement tools, and corporate banking networks.
Technical Toolkit: Proficiency with middleware integration platforms alongside foundational knowledge of SuiteScript (1.0/2.0), JavaScript, or SQL for data analysis.
Financial Literacy: A strong grasp of core accounting and finance concepts (procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, revenue recognition, multi-currency consolidation, and month-end closing procedures).
Analytical Skills: A sharp talent for troubleshooting, debugging broken data lines, and diagnosing systemic errors in a logical, step-by-step manner.
Communication & Collaboration: Superb verbal and written communication skills. You can explain complex technical configurations easily to accounting teams, and communicate financial rules clearly to software developers.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Middleware Tools: Experience with integration platform middleware tools like MuleSoft.
System Certifications: Professional credentials such as NetSuite Certified Administrator, NetSuite ERP Consultant, or Coupa Platform Certification.
