Position Summary:

The Supervisor of AVID and Student Activities provides comprehensive leadership, coordination, and oversight of the district's Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program and student activities across the district. The Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of AVID methodologies and college and career readiness initiatives while fostering student engagement, leadership development, academic achievement, and equitable access to rigorous educational opportunities. This position oversees AVID programming, teacher onboarding and professional development, student mentoring initiatives, family engagement activities, extracurricular programs, student leadership opportunities, and community partnerships. The Supervisor collaborates with administrators, counselors, teachers, students, families, and community stakeholders to create a culture of high expectations, college readiness, and student success. In addition, this position manages all student activities across the district, including the supervision of advisors and management of fundraising efforts. 

Qualifications:

New Jersey Supervisor or Principal Certificate

Masters Degree

Minimum five years teaching/administrative experience

Excellent administrative and/or teaching experience and work with students & families

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to motivate people

Knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning

Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
  • AVID Program Leadership: Lead the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the district's AVID program, ensuring fidelity to AVID principles, methodologies, and expectations.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive K-12 AVID framework that promotes college and career readiness, academic achievement, student engagement, and equitable access to advanced learning opportunities.
  • ? Teacher Onboarding and Support: Coordinate onboarding, orientation, and training for all newly assigned AVID teachers and staff. Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and implementation support.
  • Professional Development: Organize, facilitate, and evaluate AVID professional learning opportunities, including site team meetings, workshops, instructional coaching, and participation in AVID Summer Institutes and regional training.
  • Instructional Leadership: Support teachers in implementing AVID instructional strategies, including WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading), student-centered learning, and rigorous academic practices.
  • Program Evaluation: Monitor AVID implementation through classroom observations, data analysis, site team reviews, and annual program evaluations. Utilize student achievement, attendance, graduation, and college readiness data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Student Mentoring Programs: Develop, coordinate, and oversee mentoring opportunities for AVID students. Establish systems to monitor student academic progress, leadership development, and college and career readiness goals.
  • College and Career Readiness Initiatives: Coordinate college visits, career exploration opportunities, guest speakers, scholarship awareness activities, financial aid workshops, and postsecondary planning programs.
  • Family Engagement: Plan, coordinate, and oversee AVID family engagement activities, including family nights, college readiness workshops, recognition ceremonies, and informational events designed to support student success.
  • Student Activities Leadership: Supervise and support district student activities, clubs, leadership organizations, and extracurricular programs. Ensure equitable access and meaningful participation opportunities for all students.
  • Advisor Support: Provide guidance, training, and support to student activity advisors and club sponsors regarding program implementation, budgeting, student supervision, and event planning.
  • Event Coordination: Plan and oversee student leadership events, AVID celebrations, college signing ceremonies, community service initiatives, student recognition programs, assemblies, and district-wide student activities.
  • Community Partnerships: Establish and maintain partnerships with colleges, universities, businesses, community organizations, and nonprofit agencies to expand opportunities for students.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage budgets associated with AVID and student activities. Monitor expenditures and identify grant and funding opportunities that support program growth.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with district and school administrators, counselors, teachers, families, and community stakeholders to support student achievement and engagement.
  • Program Advocacy: Advocate for AVID and student leadership initiatives throughout the district and community, promoting a college-going culture and student success.
  • Reports and Compliance: Maintain all required AVID documentation, reports, program records, and compliance requirements. Prepare reports and presentations for district administration and the Board of Education.
  • Meets with the AVID Site Team to facilitate their Avid Site Team Plan.
  • Coordinates the collection of data/evidence, including Senior Data, and uses AVID resources to monitor progress across grade levels and feeder patterns aligned with the AVID Schoolwide Domains.
  • Support Site Teams's Continuous Improvement Cycle as a part of AVID summer professional learning.
  • Supports AVID site events, end-of-year recognition events, and transitional events.
  • Provides instructional and language coaching for AVID Excel Elective teachers.
  • Perform such other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent.
